2 foot ascenders

I use a two handled hand ascender and a foot ascender, I'll hold onto the hand ascender while I advance my right foot up the rope, step up push the hand ascender up and advance the foot again, it's really fast for shorter ascents but can get taxing for longer stuff. Will employ knee ascender for anything over 20 feet.

I have used double foot ascenders whilst double rope climbing (not DdRT like above but two ropes at once and two multiscenders) Works good on straight up ascents but turns messy once you're in the canopy. I like the technique in some trees for safety and positioning purposes I'm just trying to work out the kinks for real production climbing.

Hi DRudolph, welcome aboard matey. I think you'll like it here but be ready to take some crap too, some of these guys are ruthless. I will say in your defense that you technically have a "Single Rope" there so your in the right place. Seriously, if you can borrow a Pantin from somebody you should give it a go, once guys get used to them they never come off the foot, even works good under Blakes hitches. (and put a stopper knot in that tail! ;))

@DRudolph; Welcome to the TreeBuzz forum, also! I think you are going to love it here. Nice job actually managing to post such a beautiful photograph on your very first post. Well done!

Maybe I should know this, but what kind of rope is that? It looks like nice stuff. How well do you like it?

I think Raven was referring to the tail of the Blake's hitch. I think the Blake's stopper is more of a should than shall.

@Brocky; Ah, thanks for that, I should have realized. Especially since the bottom of the climbing rope is not visible, and therefore no way to know whether or not a stopper knot was installed.

Thanks again.

Tim

anybody rock two foot ascenders while climbing? sometimes pulling out the hass can be too much for a fifteen foot ascent. And after a big prune the other day my right leg took a beating. If you do,what techniques or tricks do you use?
Jeremy Williams was running two foot ascenders at saluting branches. I asked him about it, and he said he was having issues from running just his right one so now he mainly uses his left, but the right is still there for when his left leg is tired or just to mix it up sometimes. I think the trees in North West Arkansas tend to be shorter than they are here closer to the delta, so I can dig not bothering with a knee ascender.

thats how I do it too! glad to hear Im not the only one.

You know, Kevin, I'd seen this video of yours before, but for some reason it did not register that you were using just your arms for most if not all of that ascent. (I'm looking at it now on a really small screen, and cannot tell whether or not you managed to grab a footlock near the end.)

You, sir, are a beast! Scary strong to be able to pull off something like that! Nice going.

Tim

I use a foot ascender + SAKA. If I won't use it for a while, I clip it from D-ring to D-ring, behind my back. Fits perfect. If I'm pruning while ascending on a conifer, I just leave it attached to my system carabiner + foot loop.
