1947 video on felling redwoods

Hey dude
Awesome !
To be honest i could only watch a couple minutes of that clip.
Those trees are are more than trees. They are so amazing i cant believe any one would cut them down.I know at the time it was all about economics so its not applicable to us now,so im just sad about it!

Save the old growth redwoods!

CRAZY!!!! I wanna know how many guys died doing this. Being right on the verge of the old school/new school generation....I can't help but clench my teeth seeing the numerous safety violations of today taking place. Just when ANSI standards seem like a lot you watch this and become thankful for such an idea. Really sad to see the old growth forests destroyed too.

We're fortunate today to have the few high quality recordings of the early logging in that time. That's about as good as you'll ever see.

I'd like to see what was left on the editing room floor.

Jamin, the ol'timers used the cross-cuts to saw the undercut and backcuts, but relied on the axe to open the face. Chopped it out. Mostly conventional style, but once in a while you'd see the face chopped from the bottom, Humboldt style. But that was in the latter years just before the chainsaws came on the scene. The ol' timers started realizing the advantages of the Humboldt. But it was very difficult chopping at that angle. If you can imagine.
