16 strand R&R friction saver

I have a ring and ring friction saver that a buddy gave me. He wants me to splice the rings onto some 1/2 inch 16 strand. I can do this, no problem, but I am wondering if it is necessary to keep the first measurement of 28 inch or can I have that just enough so that when both ends meet in the center, I still have 11 inches for the crossover? In other words can the first measurement for both ends be shorter, thus creating a shorter friction saver while remaining safe.
Some help from the 16 strand splicers please! Thanks guys!

Show a picture Scotty. I was proud of that work! No worries on the length. I spoke with Samson and Cameron @ Sherrill about the measurements. Samson said for an eye and eye that you can cut the first measurement and and Sherrill Splicing department confirmed as well. I actually got some directions for a 26 incher. Only about 5 to 6 inches short of yours but oh well. SO enjoy buddy and let me know when you need something else. Did you get my message about the tenex. I'm out, so if you have some or what have you, send it my way and i'll get that eye n eye made up.
Peace and chicken grease!
