11 year old daughter in the emergency room

I just got back from working in the farm country tonight. There was n ambulance and fire truck and police across the street. I live in a poor, uneducated neighborhood. I went to see wht happened. My neighbor (without consulting me) was cutting down a perfectly good green ash tree. A strap broke and the metel ratchet hit his daughter in the head. She's in the emergency room- and he's trying to still get the tree down.

Kill a tree, Kill your daughter....

Are you kidding me? Nice show of compassion for your neighbor and his daughter.

I believe your story, I was referring to the total lack of compassion you showed by using the words you chose. I guess I forgot to put an eye rolling smilie after my post. You are obviously clueless.

I have to agree with tophopper. Most tree guys would have run right over to assist the guy, or even finish the job so the guy COULD get to the hospital.

I would NOT leave a cut tree standing there to hurt someone else!

I am sure the guy feels terrible enough, ya don't need to poke a stick at him.

Hope she will be OK!

i think you should rephrase your post top hopper is right that was an off the wall and insensitive way to say it i think you where trying to express your disbelief that he is worried about tree while his daughter is in hospital. but maybe that’s a terrible reminder to him and he wants it gone

And i don't know why I wasn't asked for any help. I'll work for free in this neighborhood, but I won't cut down perfectly good trees...I don't know the man.

here's a thought...a kind of neighborly ice breaker if you will...go over there, introduce yourself as a tree professional and offer to get the tree on the ground so the poor guy can go to the hospital.

the tree can wait. it'll still be there in the morning. and it never needed to come down anyway. i'm not helping. u can if u want to. i'm not...it was a perfectly good tree.

In an emergency situation YOUR beliefs in what tree lives or dies is a non-issue. I would like to believe most arborists would at least go and assess the state of the tree. If it was OK to stand while the Dad went to the hospital with his daughter, fine let it stand. If it had to come down immediately, tell him to be with his kid and render the situation safe.

You mentioned your willingness to work for neighbours for free. On your terms, NO live trees to be removed. Like Jim said, this isn't about you it is about someone that is less fortunate, and caused harm to someone else.

I hope this helps for future reference.

There is no EAB in this part of the country. The tree was perfect. If I was around when this was happening I would have put it to a halt. I saw what he tried to do. and I don't know why he would have his daughter in the yard during such dangerous work. But I can't babysit the neighborhood.
