10 Inch Eye & eye

Looking for suggestions on changing the measurements from samson in order to splice an eye and eye that is 10 inches long between the throats of the splice.

Rope being spliced is tenex.

From what I've read here using locking brummels a 5.5 inch tail bury should be enough with a cross over in the middle.

Any reason we can't do a full length crossover giving about a 9 inch bury?

By the time you put in the Brummels you have quite a bit less than 10 in. left. The extra-long crossover sounds like a good idea, giving about 8 inches of bury for each eye. But has someone tested this? Is an 8-inch bury, half of which is crossover, as good as a plain old 8-inch bury? I would happily bet my life on it, but only after testing it.

You might consider girth-hitching the eyes to the rings. This will give the eyes a ton of extra security since an eye can only pull apart if the rope is crawling through all the curves of the girth hitch. There is a huge amount of friction in the hitch resisting such an event.

Use a different rope. You can make a sling the dimensions you want but when you load it, the biners/rings will open up the weave on the front of the bridge and the strands will pop out. It won't look good.

A full bury is better.

That's what I was thinking Nick. But it seems that everything else, 16 strand or double braid, needs more of a bury, ie, I don't see from the instructions how I could splice an eye and eye that would be short enough for a 10 inch bridge?

Is there something I'm missing or not thinking about?
