Bit of a mixed blessing. Got priced out of housing market (KI/Guelph) with the kids and had to skip town during COVID (renoviction- landlady moved in drug addict kid).
As it turns out we had family near Toronto that had a large-ish property and let us set up a tent for a couple years. So we did...
Thanks for the input fellas.
After 7 years in one spot had to uproot the family and start the business from scratch this spring. Looks like going to be running solo until I can get busy enough again to hire.
Starting over def sucks!
Haha! Love it!!
Fair enough! I had been filing them like my ice axes. They actually sorta worked okay but I figured they were not great.
I have a package from Wesspur with new gaffs AND the Buckingham Gaff Sharpening kit... Probably should read the instructions!!
I sharpened my spurs in January. Anyway, working up North and spurring Pine for removals, and my spurs are skating out like crazy. Like, seriously, I'm moving a body length, then my spurs are blowing out - two steps forward, one step back.
Is this normal? Don't do a TONNE of winter climbing...
Tripped while walking along a.psth doing bush work and speared a hawthorn needle completely through my hand. Ouch! Had to pull it out... Pretty gross.
Took a big fall couple years ago on a dead Ash- maybe 20 feet air time. Landed in the rope system ( basal anchor, woohoo) and there was enough...
We're a really, really small operation. I work with a full-time groundman/climber for pruning work, and schedule a part-time groundman when the job is bigger. Either my groundman is dragging all day (or I'm dragging - I like the work out), but when we have more technical jobs with lots of rope...
I like the list. Simple.
I've also found the best time I spend on a quote is walking up to the base of the tree, looking up at the canopy, and getting myself in that mind state that I'm actually here to do the job. It sounds a bit 'wooo-weee, wooo-weee' but I find it works. I picture TIPs...
Coming off iced up double lines on a Reverso. Too fast! Miss the ghost, brother- truck stucks and cold camping.
We were pretty irresponsible in some ways- never thought much about redundancy and wished I had my tree work experience and understanding of rope systems. Shoot- had I had kids then...
Just started climbing on two ropes this Fall- two completely independent systems. Depending on the tree at the least I use an MRS (ZigZag or Hitch Climber) with an ASAP- or an SRS/SRS or SRS/MRS when the canopy is wide or tricky, no central leader...etc.
Makes me feel better. Come from an ice...
That's 80 kilometres per hour (ie 50MPH), and only on flat (or, possibly, slight decline). Empty, no chipper.
It's actually a bit embarrassing. I'll bring it to one of our int'l mechanics do have a look-over and I'll keep you guys updated. Deevo- do you know any good mechanics your way? I'm...
Thanks for the input fellas. Well, at least it's fixable - that's a relief! @deevo My Chipper is only 1,600 lbs- so if it can pull a Morbark north of 10K, it should be able to handle my little 65XP. It'll be a project trying to figure it out, and I really, REALLY appreciate all the advice.
