    coastal redwood camp and climb

I'm sitting in the sempervirens room at Big Basin Redwoods state park using their wifi. Will be headed north along the coast from San Francisco starting Thursday afternoon and I really need to climb a tall tree. If anybody knows someone who may know where I can legally climb or would be...

    Has anybody used Home Advisor?

i have a tiny bit of experience with them from a while ago. If I remember correctly you pay for leads if they send you leads. So it can be "chip my 10 year old brush pile", and you have to pay for that lead. I also read about completely fake leads. I would STAY THE HELL AWAY! @treeman1640 ...

    Caution Treestuff lag bolts

I think there is a bit of perspective loss going on here. If someone is installing a lag bolt in a tree that has the potential to kill someone ( not saying you are or aren't) then that is the problem. We aren't talking about a life support link in our climbing system. I wonder if you are...

Hi Arlo, Thanks for the invite to climb! We weren't planning on going quite that far north but I think we will now (if I can convince the wife)! Whereabouts are you in Oregon? and what is this tree vole business all about? We would probably be getting up your way sometime around early April...

Thanks Arlo! We weren't planning on going that far north but I think we just found a reason! Where are you in Oregon? I will definitely take you up on this.

    coastal redwood camp and climb

this thread has been quiet for some time but hopefully I can reignite the flame. I am going to be doing a cross country road trip this spring with my wife and really want to get in a big tree. I'm an east coaster who has once visited washington state and seen some big trees so I have a tiny...

What's the weirdest stuff you've found in trees?

I just remembered I once found a lead slug in a white pine tree. I hit it with my backcut. It was about 45 rings deep...

Sales incentives, short term and long term.

Im not dead set on the commission route. I would much prefer to spend all day in a tree rather than doing sales, I just know that I can't be a field guy forever and that I won't be able to grow in our small company without getting into the business side. That being said I'm trying to get into...

Sales incentives, short term and long term.

I'm not saying he adjusts my commission rate, that certainly would not be a good way to encourage sales. What I'm saying is that on some jobs I have added $ to a proposal with the intent of giving myself that extra money. for instance if I look at a job that should cost $1000, at 5% I would...

Sales incentives, short term and long term.

I have done this in the past where I just add in what I want to get paid for my sales time. I find that it works on paper but after all is said and done the boss sees it more like that should just be extra money for the company and that we need some of those jobs to help out the bottom line...

Sales incentives, short term and long term.

I am good at talking to people about their trees and have plenty of experience with that side of sales. I find the hard part is getting the price we need to charge, I guess that's the closing side of it. Mostly I just don't like office work, I'm a work with my hands kinda guy. but I know I...

Sales incentives, short term and long term.

It's true these 2 things shouldn't be married, I don't do sales on the clock, so the rate should't be tied to it. We are however talking about giving me an afternoon a week or so to do sales so that I don't have to work super late 3 nights a week or whatever, but I can't afford to not do field...

Sales incentives, short term and long term.

We talked about this, in fact, my boss brought up the fact that he could easily add in expenses that would make just about any job a zero net. He said he wouldn't do that to me, while i trust his word, this whole deal is going to have to be in writing... We are small enough that we don't...

Sales incentives, short term and long term.

Thanks for the input IPM! Without telling too much, our company has never gotten very close to $800,000... I'm not saying its unrealistic but I think we are usually on the high end of the market and that would be one hell of a year for us. I make good money for my area working in the field...

Sales incentives, short term and long term.

so the commission would be on top of my hourly rate while I work in the field. All of the time involved with talking to the customer, writing the proposal, billing, etc. would not be paid hourly. The commission would be compensation for my sales time. Right now I work full time in the field...

Sales incentives, short term and long term.

We are a smaller company (4 full timers including owner) with the owner doing 95% of the sales. He is starting to try retire soon and is trying to get us, mainly me, to take over sales and open up a new area. I am curious what other companies are doing to get guys to step up to doing sales...
