this big elf is heading to the splicing bench with his egg nog and brandy. making a dog leash for a friend with a walking business. with this 9/16" polydyne scrap he should be all set to walk a 1500 pound dog.
Merry Christmas everyone!
what size quicklink fits on the Hook? I tried a 5/16" and it was just too small. I am guessing 3/8 would do it but appreciate it if you know offhand. Thanks
I had a unique experience a few weeks ago: two climbers in two oaks about forty feet from another, 60-70 feet up.
The areas we were working were leaning out over wraparound porch and house, so it was nothing beneath us the whole way down.
The other climber called, "man, it's getting to me today...
It's innovative for someone who may only need to get up in a tree a handful of times a year, without laying out big money, and using lightweight gear. The redundancies are great for someone who isn't in the regular habit, just in case.
With so much length in the hitch, it does seem like it...
I just got the hook as well and did a few traverses the other day. I tied the Sticht hitch with 8mm Ocean Poly on 11mm Velocity, and used the foot ascender and hand ascender to gain into the traverse. At that point with all the tension in the ascenders you just shove the hitch knot up the...
I am looking into getting a trailer soon for brush cleanup. How high do you rate having the dump trailer? What did you figure out for getting rid of the brush?
Right now I have a friend, other climber with chipper and it works great bringing him in. Also because I enjoy working with him...
depending on the structure of the tree, especially in these real big ones, if the amount of work and movement needed in a distant section calls for it, I am finding that the extra bit of time setting up a second system makes up for it.
In these situations, like big old oaks, it's one thing...
thanks for sharing the video. it sure is an interesting way to combine double and single rope ideas. I like how he is introducing redundant systems for folks who may only climb by necessity and not often. I watched some other videos he has up describing that system.
It's a cool hitch shown...
This tree does have touch of the disease and has been getting treated. It doesn't look stressed, in terms of sprouting, but it did have about 3 major breaks (4-5" thick limbs). was some big winds though.
It's growing just how you describe @moss . I hit a home run by using a central SRT system...
Thanks folks. My understanding is the same. The tree is definitely getting good care. I was sent up with a small spray bottle of alcohol to disinfect my saws between cuts. The tree definitely has disease but it's a mature and healthy-looking tree.
Somedays it's about vertical, this tree work...
Got 150' of Yale Focus coming down the pike... :bailando:
Thanks for the conversation. That P. Ivy I have been riding is so great, it makes sense to continue with that line as my main jam. I have a handful of other lengths for different trees and such, but this is to be the one I use most...
when I ordered my first custom lanyard, with Wesspur, they called to tell me they couldn't leave the other end unterminated so they just added a sewn eye free of charge. It's that kinda stuff that keeps my trust in business.
Arbsession was also great last year, I ordered a length of rope and...
Removing breaks and pruning in an Elm, I was told to leave extra wood, cut 6" beyond branch collar, anticipating freezing weather. I hadn't heard this before nor remember reading about it.
tree is pruned regularly, I have been there twice this year. Maybe the plan is to remove stubs after...
I love the color combo of that Vantage line. yet as I work with a variety of ground folk , I like a rope that jumps out of the twigs.
May be cool to have a Lo-viz line for climbing in parks and state lands.
I am seeing the Yale rope as Focus as well, may be a good choice for...
that is sweet how the lanyard is kept there. you just lead slack into between the loops, and it plays out of those fine? way cool.
I had one of the scuba clips for stowing lanyard but it just busted off a couple weeks back. This looks like a decent solution.
thanks for the replies everyone.
as I am thinking after reading, I definitely want the 11.7 range for this next rope. The Ivy was the first rope I got, chosen after reading a bunch on here i think; and reflecting now, it's been a solid choice!
I am intrigued about trying the All Gear rope but...
