Also, to combat any blue stain fungus introduction, might there be an effective systemic fungicide that can be injected at the same time?
Update: I just found a relevant research article on the topic (adding Propiconazole to the Emamectin Benzoate)...
I've got a client with a 22" dbh loblolly with lots of pitch tubes on the lower trunk, though the canopy is still full and is healthy green. A large pine nearby has already died. The remaining pine would be a costly removal. Any info on the effectiveness of Treeage microinjections (or anything...
That article from Penn State is excellent, and helpful for understanding what is known about how this stuff works. I also thought these points were useful:
"Phosphonate fungicides have very good efficacy for Pythium diseases and other diseases caused by oomycete fungi when applied...
The discovery of a systemic fungicide that can be sprayed on tree trunks with a bark-penetrant is new to me. My general question is how widely people are using this stuff to combat various fungal and bacterial threats to trees, many of which are difficult to I.D. The label on Reliant (e.g.) is...
I appreciate the feedback and I will make a closer investigation next time I'm up there (might be a couple weeks). What do you guys do for termites in trees?
It's an impressive willow oak. I didn't measure but it's probably more than 55" dbh. No recent soil disturbance nor heavy pruning, but it's in a residential area around a other mature willow oaks planted along the streets. A number of the others willow oaks showing signs of stress and the city...
The legal statement on a label typically reads: "It is a violation of Federal law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling." In other contexts, I've always read "inconsistent with" as meaning "conflicting with" or "incompatible with". It seems to me that a given practice...
I've been getting most herbicides, and some insecticides, from Keystone Pest. Usually their labels match up well. (1 gal of Merit 2F equivalent is $56.95.)
Here's a question. I could buy a 10 pounds of 97% acephate from Keystone Pest for $85, or 10 ounces of 97% acephate for $59 from Rainbow...
My initial was Jeff Chandler, a guy with Southeastern Agency Group, that cold called me and put me together with Amerisafe. I'm not sure what the relationship is between Southeastern Agency Group and Amerisafe, but Jeff seemed to know his stuff and definitely put in some time with me answering...
I'd start with some soul searching if the poorly trained, ill-equipped, uninsured, no-reputation, upstart hacks are taking away my tree business. My company is only about three years old but I know that I already have huge advantages against anyone trying to get into the field. I can remember...
We've been happy with our 12xp. The 12xpc looked attractive to me because of its weight, but one of the bandit guys said it was a cheap and cheaply built machine for companies that chip small stuff for line clearance. I don't know if that is true (maybe he just wanted to sell me what he had on...
If your insurance agents (for home/auto/GL) don't even know how to point you in the right direction for getting WC coverage, I would suspect them to be incompetent or lazy. Look for an opportunity to drop them.
For tree workers I believe we started paying around 43% (i.e., $0.43 for WC for...
As a place to start you might contact your regional Dow AgroSciences Vegetation Management Specialist. The contact in my area was quite knowledgeable and this should be right up their alley. Then just be sure to follow the product labels.
This is regrettable. The SAKA struck me as the best product of its kind. We've got two SAKAs and three of the alternative products, which in our experience are far less durable. When paired with a spike ascender, some climbers shred the HAAS with their gaffs. Not so with the SAKA.
Where do folks send/take their knives to be sharpened? I had been sending my knives to Tree Stuff, but it looks like they've removed that service. I'm in central NC. I'd love to find a place to do this nearby, but I don't know how to find such a service.
