    The Akimbo 2

See post #4 above. I used it on KM III (not Max which I think has a smoother cover) old rope and also later now, a new one - the new was more slippy but still worked OK. It's unbelievable with a CRIC! Cheers BTW Wesspur has a good AK2 video and there's now Perry Trees too. Perry Trees video...

    The Akimbo 2

I guess all I initially had kickin' around was actually the Prest-in (from their swivel recall) years ago. That was too small for the AK2 bottom connection hole. Thanks for the DMM video - hadn't seen this. DMM is an interesting company.

    The Akimbo 2

I did find it confusing but "DMM Prest-in Wallis Grommet" was what was on the packging. Was trying to be careful :-) . It's the doughnut one! The Grommet on the DMM website. Other thing is this Grommet is more like hard-ish rubber but still rubber. It fits in the AK2 snugly but still will just...

    The Akimbo 2

So at conclusion of today's experimentation I offer the following - taking up on DSMc's recommendation of the DMM Grommet, I tried four different HMS type locking biners for the AK2 in MRS. The first was the DMM Ceros "horned" biner with wire keeper (which I liked) but it was a bear to get in...

    The Akimbo 2

I guess I went down the easily removable route to be able to take the AK2 off the biner easily and fiddle settings (that and my wife won't let me buy more than one . . . and of course she's right). I did find the DMM grommets to stick real tight on some of my gear, maybe after months. I won't be...

    The Akimbo 2

Tried DMM Grommet (Wallace?) (After checking - thanks DSMc- this first iteration was a Prestin) and rubber tubing I had around. The AK2 hole is just too large and it eventually wiggles down when tending (at least without a lot of tail in the rope as above). I'd going to try cutting a piece of...

    The Akimbo 2

DMM kindly got back to me. As for picture - see DMM Ceros biner and spacer configuration pic below. Solution may be some kind of rubber or plastic washer on the "horn side" (or different biner) ? I just don't like the suggested Hydra solution and have also tried CMI plate but both seemed...

    The Akimbo 2

Seemed to work on my KM III (not max) peachy. Just have to find the settings that'll work for you (I climb with the kitchen sink . . . ).

    SRS rope and hitch

I never considered this kind of effect with the ISC Apex rope wrench perhaps. That and the Caralink tether and Arbsession hitch engages like - bam. This kind of interaction between hitch and wrench never occurred to me. Any comments on the ISC specifically maybe? Or am I blowin' smoke?

    The Akimbo 2

On the tending with the AK2, that's why I mentioned I didn't have a long tail. It's been noted above that the AK2 works well with a CRIC, so for limb walks etc. I'd use that and set up a 3:1 with a biner on your leg loop for the rope tail. The AK2 with the CRIC is the cats meow as mentioned. I...

    SRS rope and hitch

Richard Mumford had a great video on hitches a long while back. My own experience was I continued to flounder between 8, 9.something and 10 mm hitchcords and a variety of hitches until I found the arbsession hitch. Still use Distel and VT from time to time but that hitch was a sweet spot for me...

    The Akimbo 2

So suggested to DMM - maybe what'd be nice for AK2 MRS'ing is a wide topped biner with a larger "horn" on the top of the long side to retain the AK2 - the DMM Ceros biner's isn't large enough - (keep a wire snap retainer on the bottom end) - call it the AKIMBiner? A DMM spacer between the AK2...

    The Akimbo 2

Just been playing with AK2 for MRS in the Cave of Wonders (has AC on!). It works for me with same settings as SRT kinda - depends on what I used as a branch saver/ friction saver up top. If it's a pulley, not that much diff (say a Teuf Pulley Saver). If it's a leather cambium saver or bark, you...

    The Akimbo 2

Akimbo 2 is worth the purchase in my opinion. Don't know Jaime but really great job - the changes/ upgrades are noticeable on vastly different ropes so far in the cave of wonders. Also had some sap "slicks" (not globs) on KM III and it went right over them with some vibes but nothing else (good...

I cut myself..... with a stick. (warning: blood)

Years ago while skiing the Dolomite traverse in Banff Park we were coming back down to the highway at the end of the day and I skied a turn a little too close to a skinny spruce that had a broken stub (frozen at -25 degC), It was so "sharp" that it cut my ski pant like a razor blade and left a...

    TreeStuff $75 Ships-Today-Guarantee

Right, for the most part of course, but some stuff just isn't made here (other countries too - it's not just us) and in a lot of cases the US has the distributorship for N America - Teuf and Silky I can think of to name a few. This is, I think, going to result in a big re-alignment of brand...

    TreeStuff $75 Ships-Today-Guarantee

One other BIG issue that seems to have now popped up is the new US de minimis shipping rule put in place on the 29th of August 2025. It seems that if anything is wrong with your gear shipment to any of the 20 to 30 countries stopping US parcel shipments currently, if a piece is missing or a...

    Kudos to Arbsession

I can say the same for shipments N of 49th - had a problem where Canadian Border Services wouldn't let in an order of fertilizer that we've previously brought in for ages. Arbsession were real gentlemen about it. First class.

    New saddle for heavy guy?
