I don't know, man. It looked an awful lot like this https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahogany

Honestly I've been meaning to stop by that guy's place and ask him if the tree ever dropped massive stones because in every other way it looks like a mahogany.

Thanks! The IFA study guide says there are only a few species usually that have an opposite leaf pattern so I'm sort of going through those as well.

Back to the drawing board I guess. Thank you so much for weighing in always helps me to learn more about what I'm doing! :)

Removal but I'm still not sure what it was...

I didn't see the Samara or any other debris, but I want really looking for it. I'm convinced it was an ash tree. The leaf pictures in the link you sent look pretty close.

I think you might be right. It definitely sounds like some kind of ash. There are a few with entire margins, too, which this one has. Nice work! Thanks for the help.

Leaf pattern didn't match. I should have taken much better photos of this tree. Sorry, guys. Lesson learned for next time.

Grea, rough with deep ridges, like a mature oak at the trunk, and smooth and gray on the new growth. You can kind of see it in the foreground here...

Definitely not, different leaf pattern. That's what I thought at first though.

Sorry just catching up on all the replies. Lots of good advice, here, so I'll just say thanks to all who replied. I'm not proud I couldn't identify the tree, but I'm actively working on tree id skills. I would have felt a bit worse if I'd posted this and a dozen people popped up and said, "It's...

Removal but I'm still not sure what it was...

Hey, Tim, happy to share. I'm just starting out, and trying to build some goodwill and get some good word of mouth. I'm not hurting for money at the moment because I'm still teaching full time (hoping to transition to business owner or contract climber before August so I don't have to go back to...

Removal but I'm still not sure what it was...

Two of the four main branches we over the roof and it was near a small fence so most of it had to be rigged. I swear the hardest thing about this so far has been trying to figure out how much to charge people for what. The main reason for that is that I think something is going to take a half a...

Removal but I'm still not sure what it was...

I agree. Sarasota County doesn't restrict development sufficiently, so the very least that can be done to avoid turning the place into a lifeless, clear-cut wasteland is restrict the wholesale removal of trees and preserve ecological necessities on private property. You can't swing a dead cat...

Thanks for the heads up! No one's really said so far but what would you guys have quoted this job for? If it needed a permit would you all have eaten the 215 dollar permit application fee or aged it to the invoice?

Yeah I was a little uneducated on that part of the business. Appreciate the heads up. I called the North County Environmental Specialist and he told me that it would not have required a permit. See my edit above.
