Its not silly at all. The theory sounds plausible, but Im neither involved or informed in those matters. I deal with one Producr Engineer and that's it. We both make and send parts or samples back and forth. The business or sales side of things is not my domain.
No purely Mechanical device will be good with pitch, but some will be less handicapped than others. A hitch device will always adapt better. Pitch sticks to the metal surfaces and stays.
The one advantage the mechanicals have is the pitch can be washed out on site, for some temporary relief...
No I haven't, I'll watch it later. Do you know who worked on or thought up the device, or is it just an in-house Buckingham concept.
The settings give the designers a massive advantage in passing the various drop and pull tests. If the objective was to produce a device that was functional and...
Is this the only thread on the Buckingham device ? Im surprised theres so little conversation.
I see several of the videos have now been removed since. Does anyone here own one or have any updates ?
I noticed in the video that's still live, the host highlights the long channels at the top...
Are they ? I don't know, its not something thats been discussed to me. Line clearance seems uncomplicated from a climbing aspect, although they probably have a lot to get through in a day. Climbing is Climbing no matter what the objective so I think think it's a good choice for that kind of work...
I can't say. But I think you will buy one. Or it's going to be very hard to resist.
One of the more recent requests from Notch is to make the device more compatible with 1/2" lines. I honesty didn't realise they were even used for SRT when I started the build a couple years ago. But Notch have...
Yes, couple things happened. A mistake on my part, which in hindsight wasted a lot of time. To cut a long story short, the original, basic design would fail one of the specific pull tests. It was a flaw that I'd overlooked, because I always got around with technique. Anyway Notch pointed this...
Quick update on the actual climbing device, not the grapple. Ive just received delivery of the most updated sample by Notch today. Up until now the only samples in existence were fabricated here at my house. So I am delighted to finally see their machined and refined version, that has now...
Thanks for reporting Craig. I should mention, if you are twisting the rope to get the grapple to turn, but it doesn't seem to be turning, just pull the rope back and forth a little and that should do the trick. Looks like a near perfect day for tree climbing in the photo.
Well it's nice to meet yoy, be that, Virtually, Craig.
I should mention I'm not a prolific youtuber, that is more typical these days. But I do try to select meaningful uploads at least. It's usually something big, complex or informative.
Thanks for making the investment. The Taiwanese will be grateful too. They are nice people. A humble nation. like a shoal of minnows living next door to Piranas. Living in Canada it's hard to imagine.
Anything thinner than 11.7 will make for a more effective grapple line. I personally like...
The manufacturer is supposed factor in reasonable, foreseeable misuse during the design process, which would be evident in the functionality of the final product, as well as the instruction manual and warnings where appropriate. Having said that, efficiency and safety are often codependent in a...
Hi Steve. Thanks for the welcome. A few years back I just ran out of things to say. And then whe covid hit, I decided to say a lot less.
In regards to the other matter, I do have quite a lot of insight and experience in those circles and networks on the manufacturering/retail side. And I can...
Hi Dave. That's never actually happened to me. Can't speak for the other guys who were test it through the last year, but nothing was brought to my attention. Maybe if you were wanting to make a retreat/rappel, and jammed it on something by hand, it might get stuck. But if you are using it...
Firs are just easy pickings for the grapple. Nice horizontal limbs, and so many to choose from. No worries in that regard. Which is why I went for oaks
/hardwoods for the video. Odd shaped asymmetrical limbs, crotches and line angles. A lot more skill and judgment is required for the latter.
