@96coal449 yeah I hear you I'll just have to shop around for a while.
@RoyalTree thats another thing I don't even have a mortgage yet because I haven't had 2 years of profit because I just keep buying stuff. So I need to think about how that will affect my ability to get approved.
@96coal449 yeah so right now I am thinking new gas or used diesel. However it seems like all used diesels have too small of an engine(I guess all the larger ones are snatched up fast) I probably would want to spend $30k tops buying used but wouldn't mind spending $50k new. Those budgets are...
@flyingsquirrel25 Yep I've read both the thread about the fuel tank and the thread about gas chippers in general. I am trying to not be that guy who asks questions that have already been answered elsewhere. My dealer has a 1390 w/o a winch 130hp gas that is currently being run around by him to...
Okay so keep in mind I'm still open to advice. New gas chipper, new diesel chipper, or used diesel chipper are my options. Im just going to continue researching
Well I love selling firewood but I don't have a place to store it at the moment so I'm not doing any at the moment. I think I'm wanting the bigger chipper for larger wide pieces of brush and the occasional close to capacity log. I don't think thats a bad mindset? They also have a 1590xp with a...
@frashdog I see a couple new 2016 1390xp w/ winch 130 hp gas for $40k. I guess thats because they came out with a new line of drum chippers and they are trying to get rid of the old ones. I'm a big fan of gas engines too. But I guess thats something I would have to buy like right now.
@frashdog The thing is here I don't have enough work to where I'm turning people away. So I don't NEED it as much as its the next thing I should be looking at. So a 12-18" chipper then a bucket. So the real question is will the 12" get me there faster costing less or will the 18" get me there...
Wow thanks again for the input. Okay maybe I should have titled this post "Next equipment suggestions" My old boss had the contract for a local airport so we were trimming trees along the bike trail and elevating them along the roads. So forestry body Asplundh truck and chuck and duck made sense...
@96coal449 Also I do not want to be fully spent literally every evening. I want to be happy and enthused to run around and do quotes after we are done working and not dreading it. Maybe I'm wrong, I'm assuming you know way more than me. So if my mindset is not in the right place let me know. Ive...
@96coal449 Probably a discussion for another category but yeah I have never worked with a bigger chipper so I currently don't see the need. I'm looking at it as a bucket will allow me to do my current work faster and allow me to do other trees which I would not feel safe climbing
@tc262 Which is why I'm not upgrading to a bigger chipper just yet. Chuck and duck works every time. If a chipper breaks it halts my operation. If a bucket truck breaks it does not.
@RoyalTree I probably could but I don't know if it would be worth getting tied up in because I don't have anything financed currently because I would like to get a bigger chipper(currently using chuck and duck) which would probably need some form of financing. BUT the decision on when to finance...
@flyingsquirrel25 Yeah I totally understand. My old boss had an Asplundh truck he purchased for $15k with a chipper 10 years ago and it has been fine for him but he works on it himself. I don't live anywhere near him anymore. I would rather have them not have painted it at all. So there really...
@96coal449 Thanks so much for the reply. Even at the $50k range it's not going to be perfect I understand. I could probably technically "afford" new ($150k?) but from the research I've done $50k price point will be well worth my while. So $50k isn't necessarily my budget but more so my guess for...
Hello everyone
I have a question about bucket trucks. I have read on several forums that when people bought a truck for around $30k they regretted because it was endless problems. I feel the only difference between a $30k and a $50k bucket truck is one was spray painted by a dealer. So my...
