    Branch falls, kill man.

I think it is time for a deadwood rant in this case, just last year I was 6 feet away from a 250 pound chunk of silver maple that fell from about 12 metres in this very park while walking my 2 year old son like I do every day.

Risk, yes we can never entirely eliminate risk from a tree, and they are inherently unpredictable. Deadwood is a basic, glaringly obvious defect that should be discovered through regular inspections, and re-mediated appropriately.

    Branch falls, kill man.

When in a highly trafficked area that sees 10's of thousands of daily visitors, ANY deadwood is a problem. This isn't some forest, or a lightly traveled footpath, or a parking lot. Any risk is too much risk. So Siberian Elms "can hold limbs for years" what about the deadwood on the sugar maples...

    Branch falls, kill man.

I walk by this tree daily, this park is my back yard. Would I have been able to tell you if that limb was about to fail from a boots on the ground inspection? Probably not. I would have told you it looked over extended, like 90% of the other limbs on Siberian Elms in the park. Given the space...

Toronto man killed by falling branch

My point to the news folks and the public is that there is a bare minimum of care not being performed, they claim to have increased their budget to shift to a more proactive approach, it would be interesting to see where that money is going because there is a good amount of large deadwood in the...

Toronto man killed by falling branch

Exactly, I believe the city has a policy for tree maintenance that does not include exceptions for special attention on a park by park basis. Trinity Bellwoods sees 10,000 people a day on the weekends, it's insane the pedestrian traffic we have. Today I showed the reporters 5 large dead limbs...

    Branch falls, kill man.

He sure does, I worked for him for a stint over a winter season, we had a falling out sadly. He's one heck of an arborist, I'm still sad about that losing touch with him.

Toronto man killed by falling branch

http://globalnews.ca/news/2772687/toronto-arborist-calls-for-better-tree-maintenance-at-trinity-bellwoods-park/ I didn't even view the tree that caused the fatality before the Limb was cleaned up and the stump repaired, I agree with you 100%. It is a very complicated task determining cause and...

Toronto man killed by falling branch

I'm that Arborist in the interview. This was a badly neglected Siberian Elm next to a high traffic pathway in the busiest park in the city. This tree still had broken limbs and stubs from the ice storm we had in 2013. I also walked the news crew through the park and pointed out about a dozen...

    Branch falls, kill man.

Oh man you used to work with Ganton? The tree that failed has a number of badly overextended limbs, siberian elm left in the open to grow EVERYWHERE, limbs with 4-6inch diameter that extend upwards of 30 feet from the trunk, laterally.

    Branch falls, kill man.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/park-goers-shocked-trinity-bellwoods-branch-kills-man-1.3641921 They're calling it summer branch drop. The condition of city trees in the parks is poor at best. I'm skeptical, I live across the street from this park, Tree in question is a neglected siberian...

If the TIP was strong you'd probably get sucked up to the TIP at warp 9, then it would likely break the top out and yank you to the ground straight into the feed. Scary fucking shit. Scary as all hell. I will straight up scream at anyone who picks up brush with my rope in it, I've even...

Shit is no joke. If you have someone on the ground that doesn't have discipline with your rope, tell them to get lost. Don't take the chance.
