Hegg, I agree with Rocky. I have a pair of the buckingham steel gaffs. Had the same problem you're talking about. Bought the buc-pads, and now i can be on 'em all day with minor irritation. If i where you, save yourself some cash.
I was just curious if any of you had any superstitions when it came to work? I know that if something happens on the way to a job, hitting a squirrel for example, makes me think twice about my day. I've climbed to the top of a tree for removal and go to start my saw, when the pull cord breaks...
I'm pretty sure that it is either a borer or a beetle. It's not an ant problem. Whenever my company sees that, we recommend that you take it down. I know one time, with a pine about that size, you could actually here the insects inside if you put your ear to the trunk.
