After using it several times I noticed the air chamber was still slightly pressurized after a launch. I searched around and finally found a lighter spring (on Amazon) I could use on the diaphragm to let the valve open quicker and stay open longer. So now I can get a little more distance, or I...
Compared to the new one I've got it hasn't stretched at all, and it still works fine, but I'm concerned about the cracking about halfway around both sides at the ends of the metal horns on the side closest to the pole. Of course, the cracks open up a LOT more when they're under tension.
I've...
I saw the picture of the Stihl gear box, but it looks like it tilts the saw down but still pointing forward in line with the pole. That would help when cutting almost above you. The cut would be more horizontal instead of sloped.
This is something that would be easy for a manufacturer to make if they started from scratch with that idea in mind. The fact that nobody is making one leads me to believe it's not such a great idea. I can think of several reasons it might not work so well. There would be no way to make a...
After taking the Kobalt pole saw head apart, I didn't see a way to modify it to make it easily convertible from straight out cutting to side cutting. I'd need to completely disassemble the saw head to remove and reinstall the pole each time it was switched from one to the other. It's not made...
I got permission to work on this but then decided not to. I did make a climb to look around, but I couldn't find a TIP that would put me in a position to lighten the limbs much before cutting them, and they were just too big (for me) to drop in one piece. There was nothing close by to use for...
I thought about a Sawzall, but I didn't like the possibility of it moving back and forth. The chainsaw would be pulling itself against the spike bar tending to hold it in the desired cutting position. You'd only need to apply torque to the pole to complete the cut. Or so it seems.
Here's my...
Does anyone make a powered pole saw that cuts at 90 degrees from the pole? Seems like it would be useful to be able to cut a limb with the pole alongside it. It would require a handle that would let you apply a little torque to the pole as you make the cut.
I've often found situations where...
Cleanup is going to be a challenge. Doing the whole job from the start with a big crane seems like the best approach. Once it's on the ground you've got to cut it up so it can be moved by hand to carry off or just burn it on the island.
Largish dead limb over the driveway was six inches in diameter at the cut. Rigged it with a speed line. Lots of noise when it hit the concrete, flipped partway over, and stopped with the big end up in the air. I untied the speed line and eased it down from there. Big job for the ugly little...
I picked up a Canada Dry ginger ale bottle while walking the other day. It was the perfect size for a new two-pound weight and much sturdier that the bottle I've been using. A well-proven concept in a nicer package.
The BBs are double-bagged in zip-lock plastic and make the weight a little...
