Tree oddities

I've been meaning to share a good example of the redwoods that survived the big fire, but I finally remembered to get a good picture when I had the opportunity yesterday

They did better that most species around here, but having pruned one of these now, I do wonder what they will look like in 20 or 30 years.
 
Gerry B posted a picture of a redwood that gets a way-nonstandard pruning. Stripped to a topped pole, then allowed to bush out into a columnar shape. It's not a one-off.

I was shocked.

He mentioned the prolific sprouting of redwoods.

I saw one of those in Garberville by a grocery store. Yr one it was just a stem and then totally covered in epicormics!
