He or they stuck a piece of cement into that chipper knowing it would destroy it. That was known what would happen. Spiteful and pissed at the employer for some reason.

The name comes from French workers throwing clogs (or sabots) in the machines to wreck them.

Hmm, not really, luddites destroyed machines because the technology was taking their jobs, hence its current usage as someone who is scared or refuses to embrace new tech.
Saboteurs destroy as a way of hurting bosses or some other version of ‘the man’

Years ago my friend was finishing a job and the HO asked if he would chip a handful of firewood rounds that had been sitting in a pile for some time. I wasn't there and I'm not privy of any other knowledge. He was chipping with a Bandit 254. This is a 14'' disc chipper for those who are unaware. Well, there was a splitting wedge buried in one. It somehow passed through the disk and exit the side of the shoot. All I saw was the patch of steel and weld. He told me what had happened when I had asked. I'm sure the knives were destroyed but the disk is still in use.
It's scary to think of what that chunk of steel would have done if it had hit someone.

I'd say luddites are definitely saboteurs, though obviously not the original.
This makes me think of some current age stuff called "quiet quitting." I guess that's a form of sabotage as well. I've never done tree work with gen z, I wonder what that's like. But I worked with fellow millennial foreman who did that. Any bit of adversity on the job and they'd cop out! Car in the way? Call the office. Honestly I kind of liked it.
