is it a horrible idea to get 3’ wide matts for a 3’ wide machine? I think it would be annoying….. but transportation/install would be much easier than the 4’ wide. Advice please.

I’m a 3x6 camp myself lot faster to move by hand with best surface area coverage for the weight imho

I am not so daring. I like to have a little room to manuever, and they cover area better to build a drop zone quickly. I like making fewer trips too, so when I get mats, I'm running 4x8s like the guys I learned from.

You’ll cause more displacement of soil running on the edges.

Our larger excavator is 91” wide, we run it, the grapple truck, and crane on 2 mats wide, either 12 or 16’ overall width. That gets the weight in the middle of the mat for the best floatation.

Yeah…. The only plus I see to getting the narrower is they would have fit in between the service body on one of the trucks if I chose to load out that way….

4x8’s for me.
2 Hand holds on all edges and handy hooks help with moving them, but forks with the mini is the easiest.

AlturnaLinks are great for rigidly locking mats together on hills, as a side note.

If the mats you buy don't have circle holes, you can drill them.

Ended up getting 14 4x8’x1/2” mats from Wright Environmental. Minor freight debacle, but Sean was more than generous making it right by me. Great product, and a game changer for yard access.

I'll have to do that. Seems like that'd be the ticket.

Are yours smooth one one side too? Thinking of putting skateboard deck tape on them to keep from eating it when it's damp.
