Bad Employee

I normally wouldn't do this, like at all. But I feel the need to warn some folks in Minnesota/Wisconsin as I know the guy will be applying to everyone.

I hired Seth at the beginning of February. He worked a total of 6 days in three weeks. Over that time he broke numerous tools, damaged the lift, was intensely combative, and verbally assaulted someone on the road by jumping out of a work truck and yelling at them.

I hired him despite knowing he had a felony past. I wanted to give him a shot. Boy was that a mistake. He was terminated after missing a ton of work, damaging equipment, etc. I paid him his final check and figured that would be the end of it.

He began texting and calling leaving threatening messages. He applied for unemployment through me, which I rightfully denied. That compounded his frustrations. He's now threatening my wife and kids as well as me and my family. I've contacted the police (who are acting on this) and have filed a restraining order.

I'm only doing this to save someone else major headache. I don't want someone else to get majorly screwed trying to throw a guy a bone.

That sucks. Hopefully his parole officer can get him off your back.

Kudos for trying to help a guy out. I've come close to hiring someone with a record. Had a friend with a pretty thick record that not many would hire (he ended up doing handyman work)...but knowing him I would have and felt safe with that choice. I know people can change...but that's a costly mistake assuming the best out of this guy.

Wow! Scary story.
Hope it does down after a bit.

My worst employee story is the guy who wanted a shit, so I sent him off into the woods.
An hour or so later he comes back, gouging out on heroin.
As a follow up..
This guy came from my village, I 'sacked' him regularly, only to rehire him next week, as he was always available! we got on ok, and I encouraged him to get into treework.

Eventually he actually cleaned his act up, got a few chainsaw qualifications and now works in line clearance, and has done for years, got a missus, pays his taxes moans about useless kids at work.

I'd consider some cameras and a CC permit. You're in the country- ish, maybe a shooting range at your house.

More Iron, less people.
That's what my lawyer said. We're in limbo. Trying to get the restraining order finished. Minnesota has no self protection rights, so that's fun to be navigating. Lots of boom sticks and cameras. Need a fence and big fucking dogs.

What a sad, pathetic little boy.

Sorry you're going through that man. Keep your wits about you.
I'm exhausted, as is my wife. He took to social slandering us too. Honestly I hope he just stops and moves on. He must have serious torment inside him to keep perpetuating this. I hope he finds healing. I wish I could help him but there's no way with someone like this. I hate it.

Dude, I was working for a place that half the staff were felons and if any one would act up they would get jumped. Best of luck man I feel you every one deserves a shot and if they mess up they should be self aware enough to stop bothering you

Holy crap. That's nuts. I've worked with tons of felons in my career, but none that were like this. And I really don't want to like bad mouth or anything. I really hope he stops and moves on so he can have a good life. I don't wish ill will at all. Haha. Thank you for the support.

I think you did your best. You might need a restraining order against the guy. And same I hope he moves on

This is likely unpopular. Figure out what your goal is with this guy. If you’re looking to set and example or to just be done.
The more you push back the more fixated dude can become keeping you in his short term thoughts. Besides the tangible gains he’s looking for a reaction to feel justified. Right or wrong..

Keep your shit in order is certainly necessary, make sure you have solid insurance and take precautions for sure, yet avoid accountability as this will be something to push back against. Soon he will move on to another victim which takes the psychological bait and he will be distracted.

Keep impeccable records to protect yourself..

Or stand watch and teach him a lesson but until you get the upper hand it will continue
