Been enjoying the much needed break over the holidays, working on projects around the house and giving the bucket a much needed deep-clean plus fixing little things. Wish I had more time to 'relax', but I need to go back to doing jobs again this week.

Back to work, first job of the day was a declining three-stem madrone. This guy is a regular customer and an amazing artist and carver/sculptor. I'd taken one dead stem from this cluster about a year ago, leaving a tall stump for him to carve on. Here's what he did, and now he's got three more to work with. He also offered to carve something for me (for free) to put in my shop once its done, pretty excited about that.

And some very cool big leaf maples, hard to tell but these two are about 50' tall. And don't worry, the moss won't kill the trees

I've actually been amazed at how much I'm using the forestry bucket-truck I bought over the summer. I'd always told myself buckets weren't that useful here, since most of my work is far away from roads/driveways, but I sort of bought one on a whim (after keeping an eye on the market for 8+ years....) and it's been fantastic to have for the trees it does reach. Especially when it comes to end-weight pruning on fir limbs over houses..

There are jobs that would have been 4 hours of stressful climbing and limb-walking, that take 45 minutes with the bucket truck. After I build my shop, the next major purchase will probably be a tracked lift, but I'm sort of dreaming of a short-wheelbase elevator-bucket right now.... I guess what I'm trying to say here is know your market, but don't be afraid of buying iron to improve efficiency and reduce strain on your body....

I'd honestly say get a backyard lift ASAP. I didn't know if we were ready for one or not. It's the best decision I've made since starting the company.

Good looking truck. Lots of utility there.

It's hard to get a good photo with such a busy background, but this is an old-growth (for our area) leaning doug fir, with a little seedling of another fir growing in the deep furrows of the bark. It's a regular customer I've worked for over like 10 years now and I've always noticed that tiny tree growing on the other (its along the driveway in) and it's barely grown in that time. I bet that little thumb-diameter tree is way older than people would believe.

Seems like a good way to keep carbon out of the atmosphere. We just need to figure out a low carbon way to truck all the wood in Cali to the desert to just sit instead of grinding it or burning it in cogen plants.

Leaning gum removal with a clear drop zone, later some peach tree pruning. Had to get a bit aggressive on the peach to make it fit into its space, it needs more routine maintenance
