Work Photos

This one started to bc, got lucky I guess. It had a heavy back lean. I was planning to pull it a bit before finishing the cut to keep tension in the rope but the damn thing just kept coming over. I was really surprised by how much hinge I could overcome with the 3:1...

Felled, limbed and bucked both trees with one Stihl 500 battery. Been 100% battery all summer and loving it.image000000(6).jpgimage000002.jpgimage000003(1).jpg

Had an ash today too, this one failed at the union so we cut it off the house then I had a nice time dismantling it with some fishing pole style rigging and some bombingIMG_7392.jpegIMG_7391.jpegIMG_7395.jpegIMG_7396.jpeg

Yesterday took out this sugar maple. Debris truck came in at the end and grabbed the trunk. Might make it to the mill

Split some kindling the other day

Climbed this large willow oak, - 5’ and tall. I’m about 80’ up here. Still in big wood

I scored a nice A. saccharum butt log myself yesterday. It’s not huge, but it’s looking like there’s some gorgeous color in there and it’s very straight. Homeowner had some white latex paint in the garage so I covered the ends immediately. Not much sugar here of any quality good or bad. All Norway. Gotta take what I can get!

Similar here. Not a lot of acer saccharum but we do have some acer floridinum naturally. The one from the photo was certainly a planted tree though

Just had another gander at that Willow Oak in the last photo. That’s looking mighty included down at the big union below your feet.
It’d be a good cable candidate, but the union didn’t look as bad as you might think. It’s actually why I took the photo though the perspective is always hard to translate

That client had plenty of issues to consider though, this other q. Phellos with probable weeping polypore on these buttress roots is likely their first priority

I would agree it’s a candidate for cable. I like two perspectives when evaluating inclusions…the one you posted and another 90 degrees from there looking across the 2 stems in line. That’s where any real distortion becomes more apparent to my eyes.

Speaking of cables, we have a monster Beech to bolster and help preserve in the coming days. I’ll try to remember to grab some photos and post up.

Another dead limb over a rickety fence Thursday morning.

Lowering a swinging limb to the desired touchdown is always tricky, but this was close enough.

And I made 79-foot climb to celebrate my 79th birthday Friday morning.

I was hoping I could set up a high working climb for my birthday, but a fun climb was just fine.

I mis-judged this one. I was planning on cutting it into pieces after securing it with a rope. It looked firmly attached, but it broke free as I was tying it off. The lower limb caught it, and I pulled it down after I was on the ground.

I'll remember this one if I'm ever tempted to climb under something heavy I'm not sure of.
