Splicing Tachyon

Hi fellow splicers. For years I have had an instructional video on Youtube that gave instructions for how to splice Tachyon based on the old modified double-braid method. It had lots of views and worked ok, but was a real bear to do the final bury. I realized recently that my video was causing confusion with people who were looking at the method recommended by Teufelberger, so I pulled my video today. The method recommended by Teufelberger has a few extra steps to taper the core, but it is way easier to bury and is much easier to lockstitch because there is far less rope crammed into the throat of the splice. If any of you are splicing Tachyon I highly recommend that you do it the way that is recommended by Teufelberger. Joe Stockton has an excellent video on Youtube demonstrating that method.

It is my understanding that the splife is not the same/a replacement for a regular class 1. I am not an expert but I managed to do the standard splice you demonstrated in your video. It’s your video and you can do what you feel but I can never support the purging of information to prevent offending the delicate sensibilities of under achievers.

Can it be a struggle and does it have to be done correctly? Yes. Is it impossible? No.

It’s not like you are even misleading people in thinking it is easy by cutting out the effort it takes to do the final bury.

I really didn't care about their delicate sensibilities, it was more because I found that their recommended approach was so much easier to do, especially in terms of the final bury. So, instead of telling people to do it the hard way I thought it would be better to just do it the easy way. But I have not seen test results for the Teufelberger method compared to the modified double-braid method, so I don't know how they compare in terms of strength.

Well, I learned a lot from your video. Thank you. I used your method for these and many others. Some pics for posterity. I am sad for the next generation of people wanting to learn but dont have your great video to use.

I used that video for reference a lot. Ragnar, might you be willing to recreate it? It looks like you got it down pretty good.

Hi @ARLO

Just got a length of tachyon and was refreshing myself on the splicing vids and resources I used last time I did a tight eye in this rope...many years ago. Came across this thread. I see you still have a video up:

The video looks like how I remember doing it last time. Did you repost the original video due to popular demand or is it a bit different? Just curious. I'm going to splice as though its a 24 strand dbl braid class 1 splice. Not trying to do a splife or anything fancy.

Thanks
