Fleet/fuel cards

I'm trying to cut back the time it takes to manually keep receipts in QB. My accountant suggested I look in to a fuel card.

Wex had some outlandish fees, and roadflex seemed shady.

I was thinking of the Mudflap one, but my only diesel is my chip truck.

Anyone have advice? We're 7 months old, 5 person staff, 4 drivers. Thanks

Credit card left with the crew for fuel only…. Just keep up on the balance and no need for speciality accounts.

You can get each driver a gas cc with a low limit...$250.

I trust employees with driving trucks down public roads...$250 on a CC is nothing by comparison.
man, when you put it that way, it seems sooooo trivial.

If it does end up costing you $250 to learn that an employee is not trustworthy, then that CC probably saved you a truckload of money.

I’m with flushcut we have 4 cells at our yard with equipment and trucks parking area.
(2) 1k gal diesel cells one on road one off road diesel
(1) 500 gal straight Midgrade gasoline
(1) 50 gallon drum of aspen premix 2 stroke fuel
The aspen is the only one I pick up myself
The rest is all delivered onsite for a decent amount less than retail. Say on road diesel here now retail 4.20 gal
I pay 3.80 wholesale
That’s not the real savings though the savings is having fuel right there with us and no time wasted going for it anywhere else

I've used a few different ones. I like them and usually when I fuel at their site I get a small discount. Also the account reports can be used for my IFTA filing so that works well. They're almost universal so you just have to pick one. I use an east coast provider.

How do their fees work for you? I talked to the wex guy and he said it'd be around $40 a month to have the card. A MONTH!!! That can't be normal, right?

There is a group TCIA is pimping that doesn't have fees. They seemed to be ok but I decided to stay local. I can't remember what the group was but you should be able to find them as a corporate sponsor or partner on TCIA's site. Sorry I don't have the name handy.

I just use a local Rutter's fleet card (they get it through Fuelman, but I selected only usuable at Rutter's). I am currently getting about 13 cents off a gallon with it. No monthly fees, and the fuel tracking info is pretty nice. I am using just one card for 2-3 vehicles, so not doing an accurate odometer readings and tracking.
