New Ascender from Reg Coates

That's a true design accomplishment if it avoids heavy load lockup on the release handle, yet still can hold the 2000 lbs. Now I'm even more curious.

Anyone heard any further info on this?? (Saw it in Reg Coates Facebook feed. I don’t know anymore.)

Reg is on facebook?

I just watched one of his newer videos from only 6 days ago entitled "Watch Big Tree Removal in 9 Minutes". In the comments section hidden amongst all the Fanboy adoration someone asked when his new device would be available. His response was that he is actually releasing two very different climbing devices, not just one. The one seen in his most recent video will be released most likely later than the other one, whatever that is. Still a bit mysterious.

I noticed he was using it in that video, but didn't dig into the comments to catch that bit of info, thanks for sharing it. I'm certainly looking forward to seeing what ends up coming out, though it will likely be a while before it does.

The partial photo is enticing, I'm sure rc is putting out a good product. I'll try one if it's not a million bucks, my bdb is pretty worn out after 7+ years.

I'll wait. I didn't jump on the Akimbo when it showed up, and glad I didn't waste my money doing so. After it has been out for a year or so and the reviews start coming in from reputable climbers, I'll make my decision. I remember the initial reviews of the Akimbo. "Answer to our prayers", "Greatest thing since sliced bread", ... Then the real climbers began reviewing it. "Worthless if you are around pitch", "Spend way too much time adjusting it to a rope, only to have to readjust it if the weather changes". Yeah! Not Rock Exotica's finest moment.
Let other do the R&D, then make a reasonable decision as to whether it is going to be something you got to have.
I like Reg too, and most of the stuff he has built, but just because it is he who comes up with this does not make it a must have item for me. I'm getting along just fine with what I currently have and that $350.-$600. sitting in the bank is content to just be there collecting interest. Could it be that much better than what we are using now? Maybe. Or could it be that because Reg is building it that we think it will be that much better? Probably. Would everybody be as excited if Andy Smith was building it? (I don't know who that is either.) Point is, let the fools try it out first. If it turns out great, there will be lots of them for you to buy one down the road.

I hear you. For me personally, my hope is that it handles pitch/sap/latex well. That’s really the only factor that has me wanting a new device. Being in the PNW, I feel he would design something to handle all that pitch.
