Trees from a distance

It’s my hometown, I’m not sure there even is one. Been thinking about approaching the town about filling that position but no idea how. They need help.
We haven't had a Forester in my home town since that wasnthe first position cut in the 2009 recession. Instead the engineer says no trees in the tree lawn because that is where the utilities go. Someone else downtown said no trees that will grow to be over 50" tall.... because that is the tallest their bucket truck can reach (wonder if they might buy a new truck before a tree planted today gets to be 50' tall?).

Are you interested in being that guy? If so, start thinking about what that would look like. I'm sure others would be more than glad to help you out together a position description, and more importantly, a cost:benefit analysis.

I am interested in being that guy, particularly if my current new position doesn’t take off like I would like. I do some volunteer consulting for community based organizations and it has gotten me a good reputation with a few. As much as I think gov work will be frustrating at times (every job has its moments), it also has its allures compared to production for a private company and it pains me to see how the green infrastructure is currently managed.

Certainly a topic for a new thread.

Summon @JD3000 and @macrocarpa to give their thoughts. I know there are other public sector employees here too...they've both made the move private to public. I went public to private (also traditional forestry to Arboriculture...).

Does NY have an urban forestry State program. In OH, there would be urban foresters with the state to help the community through that process...

NYS definitely has some options but it seems limited except for NYC. But working in the city isn’t really of huge interest to me. I’ll definitely reach out to those guys.
