That is a verse I do not entirely understand, so I can’t give a good explanation. I had learned about it way back in school years ago, but don’t remember much except that it the original Hebrew does not mean that you should stone your children because they aren’t picking up their toys when you tell them to.
The word of the Bible is the Word of God. No question there to me, there is simply too much evidence that proves the Bible for be to possibly not believe it.What I can not understand is how some biblical passages can be read and taken to task at face value. Then there are others that need a big dose of Lucy-style 'splaining. and all along I'm told that the word of the bible is the word of god. Simply read what's said and its true.
What's said should stand on its own without lots of annotations and references.
How many lines have been written to try and 'splain away:
One handed chainsaw use
Cutting at the branch collar
Wearing spikes for pruning
Using climb lines for light rigging.
It either is or isn't. If it's necessary 'splain things then, I think, more thought need
s to go into it.
It is terrible what was done to that girl, to cause her to be pregnant. No question about that whatsoever. I hope her rapist is arrested and given the sentence he deserves for what he did. When will the nine year old make headlines?

I’m not sure I would agree that “The majority of the book can simply be read and understood as written.”The word of the Bible is the Word of God. No question there to me, there is simply too much evidence that proves the Bible for be to possibly not believe it.
The majority of the book can simply be read and understood as written, most of it is quite clear. There are some passages however that require some further work to understand, as the Bible was written long ago, in a very different language, and in a very different culture. That does not make it irrelevant, but it does mean that some things that, in ancient Hebrew, spoken to an ancient Hebrew citizen would make perfect sense, but read today are not quite so obvious.
For example, a passage using an example of why new wine is not put in old wineskins makes no sense to us. To someone of that day it would, they would understand that wineskins age with the wine, and putting new wine in an old wineskin is a sure way to split the old wineskin and lose all your wine.
I don’t believe more thought needs to go into the writing of the Bible, but we do sometimes have to put more work into understanding it. We also cannot simply take a single numbered verse of the Bible and call it a standalone fact. We must read the rest of the passage/story/part of the book to understand what that verse is talking about. Many of the books of the Bible were written as letters to a specific group. Take a letter you wrote to your wife when you were young, pick a random sentence and it may make no sense at all. Read the rest of the paragraph and voila! - the meaning becomes clear.
That. That right there is what makes "God" and religion the embodiment of pure evil in my mind.It is terrible what was done to that girl, to cause her to be pregnant. No question about that whatsoever. I hope her rapist is arrested and given the sentence he deserves for what he did.
However, that does not justify the murder of the child inside that little girl’s womb. I feel bad for the girl, no child should ever be abused in that way, but neither should a child be murdered because that child was conceived in a terrible way.
sometimes I am both ashamed and embarrassed by the actions of the country that I love.. this is one of those timesWhen will the nine year old make headlines?

True, yes, I agree that without God you cannot understand spiritual truth, but at the same time the Bible is not a cryptic book that requires a priest to explain it to the average person. That is more what I was trying to explain. I probably could have written it more clearly.I’m not sure I would agree that “The majority of the book can simply be read and understood as written.”
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” Proverbs 1:7
Those who don’t have a relationship with Jesus are not capable of understanding spiritual truth because they are spiritually dead.
I also thought sodomy and adultery were/are defined as sins punishable by death.. so by that definition anyone with a kink or queer should be lined up against the same wall..
People would be very kind and honorable when there is no bs'ing or running away from bad behavior. He did that much more long ago, before He sent His Son to earth. There are plenty of places in the Old Testament, and even a couple in the New Testament where God struck someone dead or blind or smote them in some very clear way. Now He has allowed us to live under His grace, and while we will still all be accountable to Him after our deaths, He is more patient with most of us.
If He were to smite us every time we did something wrong, very few of us would live to graduate high school!
Not to pick on you too hard while your healing.. BUT, doesn’t this sound like interpretation is important with the Bible, more so than the literal word.. As if with the ever evolving use of language and direct translation the root of intention doesn’t fit the modern literal context? That is a verse I do not entirely understand, so I can’t give a good explanation. I did a little searching and found a decent basic explanation of that passage, which may help you to better understand it: https://www.gotquestions.org/stone-rebellious-children.html
If the world really did operate the way God intended it to run, and people as a whole obeyed Him, that is how it would work. Unfortunately, we humans are sinners, downright selfish, and do not want to follow God’s laws or even admit that He exists.People would be very kind and honorable when there is no bs'ing or running away from bad behavior.
No murderers, no pedophiles, no spouse abusers, no need for locks. Sounds great. Sign me up.
I think he is a figment of people imagination. Too bad for everyone.
Forcing a 10 year old victim of rape to carry her pregnancy to term? Fucking shameful. It is terrible what was done to that girl, to cause her to be pregnant. No question about that whatsoever. I hope her rapist is arrested and given the sentence he deserves for what he did.
However, that does not justify the murder of the child inside that little girl’s womb. I feel bad for the girl, no child should ever be abused in that way, but neither should a child be murdered because that child was conceived in a terrible way.
I appreciate the hard questions. I can’t promise I will always know the answers, but I will do my best, based on my understanding. Not to pick on you too hard while your healing.. BUT, doesn’t this sound like interpretation is important with the Bible, more so than the literal word.. As if with the ever evolving use of language and direct translation the root of intention doesn’t fit the modern literal context?
Not unlike the constitution, and Supreme Courts stance?
Taking it back to full circle terminating a pregnancy back in biblical days is vastly different than it is in modern times.
Isn’t there something in the Bible about infallible judgements? Seriously asking, if abortion is such a serious ‘sin’ is ‘man’s’ judgment even justified. In this sense shouldn’t your god be the ultimate judge?
Also serious questions, it’s certainly tried and true (in verbiage and not practices) that we in this country have a freedom of religion. So what of those who have religious freedoms which specifically allow for abortion.
This is where I have a huge issue with religions that follow the Bible. It their way is the only right or moral way, which has resulted in so many global genocides in the name of morality.
Fuck off...Those who don’t have a relationship with Jesus are not capable of understanding spiritual truth because they are spiritually dead.
Forcing that girl to carry the child to term IS ABUSE!!!It is terrible what was done to that girl, to cause her to be pregnant. No question about that whatsoever. I hope her rapist is arrested and given the sentence he deserves for what he did.
