Good stuff! Guessing by the tree and bird species mix and terrain it’s the “Lost Forty”, MN.
Red-breasted nuthatch calling, distinctive red pine trunks here and there, and mention of wolves give it away ;-)
Big northeast US forest-grown white pine were my climbing training grounds, my first tree love so-to-speak ;-)
