Tree Infested with bugs and stripped bark! Please help!

• I need help!
  
  It recently came to my attention that I probably have been killing the 50 foot or so tall evergreen in our yard.
  
  I have been throwing knives at it for a month or so, and the bark is damaged from about head to toe level in meter high places around the tree.
  
  I dont know how to fix it and thousands of flies are infesting the bark, although those same flies are on many trees around the property
  
  Please help, I am panicking!

The only thing you can do is stop throwing knives and other sharp things that cut at living things.

Just time, time for the tree to compartmentalize the wounds and grow over them. Don’t put anything on the wounds, let the tree take care of itself. Most of the time, any attempts at helping the tree along actually cause more harm than good.

All I've got to suggest is concrete, lots and lots of concrete. If your knives are buried in concrete, then you can't throw them at the tree and hopefully the tree will be able to compartmentalize the wound area before decay sets in.

LOL this was late fall of last year and over my leach field, right now it looks brown and near dead its been so dry. We did get two inches a few days ago but that really didn't do anything. The ground just soaked it up like we didn't get any rain.

I apologize for my bad way of putting the message across. What I meant, is that I am worried the damage inflicted will harm the tree.

yes I use planks of wood and use carbon steel + kunai knives.

I obviously after doing research stopped, but I am worried about the eventual damage, not my current mistakes.

Just curious what tree species. Do you have a picture of the tree's needles/bark?

Let me work on that... I think it may be a redwood, and has spiky white but mostly brown bark.

Ah. After looking it gives off small cones, so it might be a spruce. I am still working on that image

Water and mulch. Basically get it to bump up in growth rates so it can callus over the damage you did

You are welcome. Maybe post some pics of the damage. But Reach has about the best advice.
