Hey guys i have never used a zillion. I have 1 one the way bought it from Bartlett when they were doing there 20% off petzl. Ok so i was wondering is the zillion kind of like a flip line? Just wondering because it looks alot like petzls mirco flipline. Thanks

Its going to have the factory rope. Til i decide if i like the factory rope or not. Ive heard alot of people dont like it. And alot that do like the rope the zillion come on

Haven’t looked very close, but it’s a sewn termination and I think it’s 16 strand if it’s the black and yellow stuff.
It’s fine for a positioning lanyard but it’ll suck if you’re trying to wave or roll it up a 4’ spar for a while.

I love the Zillon device though.

Oh alright thanks Johnny...appreciate it. But yeah i was hoping it would work nice like that. But alright. Hopefully i can make it work. I was hoping it would be a nice poistioning lanyard and flipline. I can flip my regular positioning lanyard pretty well so ill make it work. I cant wait to get it. Its going to take a month though so that sucks. But anyway thanks. Stay safe out there.

I immediately cut that black and yellow crap off and used a nice new piece of Blaze. Super smooth.
Most popular arborist ropes are good for positioning if the device grabs and releases nicely. For flipping/ rolling/ waving up a fat spar you need a steel core or a stiff Dacron or kernmantle.

Life has been easier since I started setting lines though. My area big trees might be 5’ diameter for 15’ then it’s a bunch of co-dom stems.
Your mileage will vary if it’s a west coast conifer. But here, 5’ diameter usually means a deciduous.

Yeah i know thanks johnny. I do need a new wire core. Thats why i was asking lastnight. I was looking at 1. Thanks for your advice. I definitely know that pain trying to flip up a tree that size with out a wire core flipline. It sucks but ive done it. Setring bbn a line is a hell of alot eaiser. And have someone help pull you up. Yesterday i got stuck climbing a little box elder in snow boot because i forgot my climbing boots. My gaffs would not stay where there supposed to be. I pretty much climbed with my gaffs at the heel of my foot. Sucked but once i got to where i needed to be and tied in i got the job done.

Yeah ive heard of alot of people doing that. I may do the same i had a few extra lanyards made up when wesspur had a sale where you get free eye splices or swen eyes. So i had 3 extra made up cheaper than the price to buy 1 without hardware. So im ready if i decide to cut it off. Lol oh but ive heard of alot of people really liking it. So time will tell. Ill let you know when i try it out. It on back order and going to take a bit.

I'm a climber from the late 70s and 80s on Vancouver island. We had a tree service that we thought was ahead of its time then (we were all rock climbers and integrated rock climbing rope management) but looking at the modern techniques is inspiring. I made a flipline or belt that was wire cored and it was great for big crusty west coast trees plus the stainless wire core saved my ass once when i tried to saw through it :)

Oh wow..yeah i know the feeling i need a new wire core because i did the same thing. Cut it. Wasn't paying attention. Sucks. I dont have 1 right now. I keep buying all this gear but haven't got a replacement yet. Because i have all these spar lanyards. Non wire core. Ive literally spent a grad these last few weeks. Oh n yeah i cant even believe all this new gear these days. Still surpries me. Lol im new to srt. Its crazy. And friction savers for ddrt or mrs. I just recently started using a friction saver.
