TCIA Expo

Steve Connally

Been here much more than a while
I'll be teaching 2 classes at Expo on Friday. 8-10 Working with First Responders. This will cover the Fire Dept.'s incident command system, organization and operating protocol on a work site incident. There will be some take aways on how to present and transfer information about the site, victim and operations in a manner that will hopefully result in you being seen as the subject matter expert and staying on the action side of the yellow tape. Hopefully there will be some good take aways that can keep you in play as a pivotal part of the rescue operation. In addition to my lecture, Dr John Ball will be sharing the stage and discussing the recent Aerial Rescue Symposium in Detroit.

4:30 - 5:30 Managing a grapple saw crane buisness. Hopefully by sharing all the mistakes I've made and hurdles i've had to overcome, someone in a similar situation may not have to reinvent the wheel like I did. I'll take you through the build process, financing, insurance, DOT, and marketing. Then you'll see how similar my business model is to a subcontract climber. I just have a fancy tool, but all the same struggles.

If anything floats your boat, i'd appreciate your support. If not and you're bored and killing time until happy hour, stop in and make me feel like people are interested. LOL

Hope to see some familiar faces in the audience.

The first one sounds great, I wish I could sit that. I’ll only be coming in Saturday morning and leaving Saturday evening I think.

Any hints on big important parts of it though?
I like seeing the paperwork for a job left on a clipboard on the seat of the chip truck or one of the trucks, so anyone making the phone call can get the address if they need to. Simple enough part of it.

Are you going to instruct how to explain to your wife how it’s totally fine to spend $500k+ on a truck and smooth things over?

Asking for a friend.
Shows up each day, doesn’t call in sick or late, can do big removals with 2-3 guys instead of more guys for normal Crane removals, have energy at the end of the day, more production. It depends on the size of KBoom your getting built and what you want to add or have it setup, you can get a new PK650002 on a brand new truck for under 500. My PK40002 on a brand new freightliner SD114 with a mecanil saw is being built for under 395,000 Canadian, that’s around 300 U.S. or less right now with our lousy dollar. Think of it this way, if your paying a climber 60,000 a year, not hiring another or cutting one out of the equation that over 5 years will pay for your truck. Something to think about, that’s the way I went about justifying building mine.

The plan is after expo I'll be joining forces with the educated climber.com and we will get the full narrated presentation on his site.
