Rope Runner

Oh, and I got a chance to check out some vega today. Really nice rope! Good density, good hand, smooth but not too smooth cover. I didn't climb on it, but feels real nice. If I wasn't so in love with my new 13mm km3, I'd get me some of that vega.
13mm would never work for me because I am mainly a wrench guy. Especially after my pinky. The runner hurts my hand these days. Today it is sore just after kicking it for a couple hours not even doing much....

I saw this advertised at Sherrill. 150-200 ft lines are pretty worthless to me so I called to order a longer hank. The young man told me they had a 600 roll left so I said I would take. Now I figured I was gonna get the "Bro" deal that was advertised, but boy was I wrong. Fella did his ciphering and told me the grand total was gonna be just under $900. WTF? I tried to explained that the rope that was advertised was gonna be cut from the very same spool I just bought, so why were they gonna charge me top dollar for the same fucking rope. He said that since I was buying it bulk the price was $1.49 a foot and thats just the way it was. 86 that order and kindly go fuck yourself!
If you deal with Wesspur and if they even carry the stuff, I bet they'd take way better care of you.

I want to try doing comps, so I either have to get a wrench, or go mrs, and I'm just uncomfortable on mrs anymore. I did mess around with my spiderjack today a little, and I think I could rock it if I had to, but I still want to get a wrench. That might just be my excuse to get some vega.

Just seen you met Andrew and Arch for a rec climb. So happy I put you into focus. That is cool as fuck Brendon......

Hell yes, thank you dude! It's so nice to make contact in person with other climbers who are interested in modern techniques and love to learn new stuff.
The arb community I am a part of is insanely tight knit and caring of all things arboriculture. Objectives mainly safety and progressive techniques both climbing and PHC maintenance. This is no place to be stuck in the dark ages let us help each other be the best they can be once the willingness is there. Just need to be open minded. We all have stuff to offer and learn from each other.

Had a Sunday morning session with the Runner in a beat up little Redwood across the road that I use for practicing and trying new gear. Tip was set at 125 ft already with some Edelrid 11mm Performance, so I gave it a good go with a rope walker setup first, then with a flipline and spurs. Needless to say the Runner is perfection in a rope walker setup. I could barely tell it was there during ascent, but it bit instantly when I sat down. Nuff said there.
With spurs and a flipline the Runner effortlessly followed me up the tree from the moment I left the ground, and is the first device to ever do that for me. It also tended effortlessly with the pulley when I tried to simulate the movements that I make when I am actually working the brush and wood in a Red or a Fir. The last 2 points are huge for me as 90% of my climb time is spent doing just that. I also gave it a good rip from 120-125 ft on a few descents. WTF? How is it possible that this thing can be so fast, smooth, responsive, and dynamic while also being very forgiving? I don't think I have ever bomb out of a tree so fast in my life, yet when it came time to stop I simply let up on the beak and it came to a nice gentle tapered stop. Absolutely Amazing. Between the Wrench and the Runner I'm starting to think that this Kevin Bingham character is some sort of mad scientist, savant, tree genius!!!

The descending part is insanely enjoyable. Like off the charts. Some never get it. Ever. But for those that do there is no device on the planet that can replicate it....0

If I’m spur climbing, I don’t always set a TIP before. Just spike up with a lanyard and use climbing line as 2nd lanyard to pass obstacles or when running chainsaw.
Does the RR work as a lanyard adjuster well enough? I don’t see why it wouldn’t, just making sure.
FWIW HitchHiker and Akimbo work fine on lanyard. Unloaded Akimbo pulls all the rope through until the snap or biner stops it, but no biggie, I’ve no intention of using either as permanent lanyard adjuster.

Damn now I want one. I could have tried one out yesterday on a rec climb with some other fine tree climbers that I have met here on the internet, but I was occupied by trying other things I've been thinking about and dialing in other things I've recently bought. The one complaint I have about the way my bdb and hh2 act on my new 13mm line is they stop on a dime when released. No softness about it. I have had much more of a soft stop on smaller lines with the bdb, could be the rr would be the same on a 13mm. I bet I could tune the hitch and cord choice on my hh2 to fasilitate the ability to do a softer stop also. But how will I know if I don't buy EVERY SINGLE ITEM OUT THERE! Lol. It is nice we have so many options, right?

I spent most of my climbing life in the ignorance is bliss camp. A fucking taught line hitch and a bechets hitch on my 7/8" wire core manilla flipline was all I needed. Then one day I bought me one of those google boxes and discovered the inter-webs. Much to my surprise the climbing world had progressed in the last 30 years!! Next thing I know I'm what's known as a progressive climber who spends way too much time geeking out on gear. Have I spent too much time and money trying to find the perfect tool for me and the work I do? Hell yes!! Has it made my climbing life exponentially easier, and probably adding a few years to my time aloft? Yep!!!

The roperunner functions the same on every line once adjusted and broken in. It feathers to a stop always. That is the beauty of it. The johnny pro vids of old are the greatest example of this on the net. I would never use anything on a lanyard but a pinto and a very short handspliced piece of HRC. So fucking smooth.

I thought my buying days were over. But that never happens. My latest gear fetish is fucking storage. I am addicted to how I carry my so expensive gear. Obsessed. Metolius is my new love. Tried it years ago and said hell no. Wanted simple. What an idiot.

But spent a shitload getting here.....will not even go into detail. Took loads of losses. Climbing pants are next....took a hit on scarpas the other day....back to clip n steps.....lol
