Sherrill, again

Customer service at big companies can honestly and truly suck is one reason, Tom.
Bell Canada still periodically sends me an invoice for a 1-800 number I cancelled about 20 years ago. I did try once to actually talk to a human life form there to get the matter settled, and after being transferred to several different departments, was told the bill is computer generated and they cant help me.
I get that, but it doesn't have to suck. Some companies actually can afford to do it right only after they get to the next level. (I'm thinking of my own company here)

Reminds me of the first time a groundie forgot to tighten the fuel cap on my saw and I got a lap full of saw fuel at 150ft. I decided to roll with it and kept working despite the burning sensations emanating from my junk. By the time I hit the ground hours later my poor scrotum was blistered and uglier than normal.
Been there

I see AM Leonard is selling Notch brand equipment. Not exactly monopolistic behavior to well the brand through other retailers...
It is taking market share from competing manufacturers. Even when people buy from a different retailer. If they take enough market share, others are driven out of business. Will it come to that? I don't know. I hope not. I hope other companies stop selling out to them and competition is increased, driving even more innovation.

I imagine they are making pretty attractive offers to these folks, hard to resist. I really would like to see more co-op busines models in the tree world. Benefits workers, translates to better service. No one gets rich, but is that the only goal?

Many people do care about the size of Walmart and Amazon, myself included. Anti- trust laws are on the books for a reason. not saying sherrills parent co is on that scale, but it's something to be cautious about.

If you were Sherrilltree whould you do that differently?
Actually yes I'd likely do so (not take it but also come to the agreement that I would not be excluded as a dealer), but I'm not much of a capitalist... My model is to grow slow, feed my family, make what I need to be comfortable, and focus on quality. Never has it been in my mind to get big for the profits. I've done retail, and know I don't want to do it ever again.

Yessah, you tell 'em Meagan! You folks ever do factory tours etc? I'm not on social media to hashtag/like/bird-thing Sterling (this is my sole digital outlet) but I do love trying new rope...
Hey! We absolutely do factory tours. Shoot me a note at meagan@sterlingrope.com and we can figure out something that works if you're interested! No need to hashtag/like/bird-thing to get that in the books :p

People are still buying from sherrill??
The vast majority of people in the tree industry probably don't know or care about what Sherrill is doing. Most probably just order from whoever is cheaper or more convenient. I like Gap Arborist Supply because they are a smaller company with good customer service, competitive prices, and nobody ships to me for free faster. I think I heard something about them having a parent company too, but not something like Sherrill's huge corp owner.

Gap Arborist Supply does have a parent company, but it’s fairly small. It is called Gap Power Equipment, and it is the building right next door to the arborist supply. They’re a Mennonite owned equipment rental company, and they are also a Stihl dealer, and sell a pretty nice variety of hand and power tools to the landscape and construction industries. You can find them online at GapPower.com
