I did not know much about the saddle or what binas etc to use with it. I clipped a bina here for my chainsaw and had it there for a long time. And I learned that you are not supposed to do that when my 193 took a 40 foot fall to the concrete. I’ve worn my treemotion out by incorrect use. I’m ordering the new EVO. I also ordered the correct transporters/caritool that slide into the spots correctly.

I currently use a bina like this as a saw hook.

But now that I’ve done the research and put in order for correct stuff, I’m super hype. I love the saddle. It’s light weight, easy to maneuver, easy mobility, and I can see all the features that can be added if needed. I’ll keep this saddle specifically for palms in Florida and rec climbs or something. But looking forward to the new gear.

Thanks for this insight, as a new Treemotion owner I will remember the hard earned lesson you just shared. Looks like it's very important to capture the webbing behind the slots and spots if you're carrying your saw there or anything very heavy.

After a couple climbs on my new harness, I have fully realized my love / hate relationship with Petzl Cartools. While being convenient they also seem to make the harness bulky when trying to stuff it into a haul bag and if there is something (anything) for them to get caught on they will. I'm considering removing mine completely and putting on a few more gear loops instead. If I go this route I'll post up more photos.

Yes utilize those straps under the leather man. I learned a $350 lesson because of that mistake. And yes if your using car tools or transporter, and have it on there correctly, you are good to go. I would recommend looking through here, changing out the bungee with the better cord someone posted. I changed mine. That shit falls apart if you climb a lot. I’m not a bucket baby, I climb damn near everything. I’m scared of buckets actually lol. And yes you can also put the gear loops which I will def be adding in on my new saddle

I've actually never gotten a caritool hung up somewhere, but it has happened with a non locking carabiner that my radio hangs on at work. I have that in the caritool slot on my right hip, that way I can quickly grab the radio, but it doesn't hit my helmet or other gear when running. Anyway, one time I was going through some rope loops, when one clipped into the biner almost knocking me over.
I hate caritools when packing up too.

That saddle is still good to go but if u got the money go ahead and get the new one. If u want to sell the lower d's id pay good money. Pm me if interested

Used those plastic tubing bits, put a loop on either leg, convenient for carabiners and stuff, one either side of my chalk bag pouch, I keep a face mask, fig 8, bandaids and lollies in the chalk bag. Love the dmm vaults, one is dedicated for my lanyard, one with a bit of plastic tubing dedicated for chainsaws, last is for whatever gear, hand saw clip.

I split the bridge, which I use more than I thought I would, usually only load on what I need for a climb but this is nice and simple while giving me access to most stuff.

The red gear loops built in I've fixed in the middle with a bit of whipping twine otherwise it slides around and pisses me off.

Has anyone replaced the front webbing straps that hold the lower D's? As most of you know that's the number one wear spot (besides the bridge) in the PPE parts of the TM. Mine are still good enough but look ready for replacement sooner than later.

There’s nothing to it. The only thing to think through is which direction to girth the new strap on the ring to keep the bulk of the hitch against the saddle and out of the way.

How long did you get out of them and do you climb every day?

Four years on the TM I think, work and rec climbs, normally work climb 3-4 days a week sometimes more but a non-work related injury took me out for many months last year. They’re still good but showing some fraying top and bottom edges of the webbing. Probably 98% of the webbing at the wear point in the tight lower side D slot is good.

Samsquanch I like how you put an attachment point on the leg support. I was thinking of doing the same. I'm w/you and BobBob, I ditched the Caritools entirely from my TM. I was gonna send them back but they're already proving useful hanging equipment in storage. Don't those rigid alum Vault things you've hung along the back mess you up when you try to squeeze thru narrow spaces? I like to keep my attachment points flexible so if I'm in a tight spot I can kinda drag my way thru. Also I come down inverted a lot depending on the tree, so in that scenario my back's against the tree and those things would hang up constantly. And maybe a little painful too! Hey if it works for you... I'm a longtime Skylotec Kolibri guy, and they put loops everywhere on that thing, which I always found ideal. I tried to re-create that on my TM. It was easy given all the holes they put in it.

I heard tales of that leather/rubber material ripping. Especially from the weight of the chainsaw on a carabiner. I just got my first TM, it was the Evo, and went with the shembiner for a saw holder. Right away I didn't like how it pulled on that leather material but I like the shembiner so much I decided I could easily reinforce it with some 3mm cord. The shembiner has a couple tiny holes in it's spine that I was able to conveniently utilize along with the tiny holes in the harness itself. Now I'm confident I can hang a large saw with no problem.

Only other thing I did maybe worth mentioning is the tiny tube loops I made on the left side to store my lanyard carabiners. I cut the tube at 45 degrees to make little squares because the tube would kink making loops that small. I use these to store a crab the captures the daisy chain loop and the other is for the terminal end of the lanyard. Keeps em close, but separate.20190526_200741.webp20190526_200759.webp20190526_200845.webp20190526_200658.webp

Really practical, the new attachment possibilities! The second rope bridge is just too perfect for lateral movement and positioning. Combined some leisure climbing with an annual check to verify all my installed lines are secure, safe and not girdling the trees at the TIP's. The tree swing line I use w/my Texas system was easier than ever to walk out, tie in and inspect thanks to the TM harness. Two bridges look cool as a letter 'M' for Miko. Or is it a W for WTF?

I'm gonna be taking my small Petzl Paw rigging plate off and stowing it with my aux gear. I've never gone up w/out that plate since I got it, prolly almost 15 years. With my Skylotec harness the rigging plate was mandatory, but not anymore. Love the way a CMI double tie-in pulley works on the TM, and it makes good clearance between my hardware.

That little Blue Fusion Contigua carabiner from American Arborist supplies is just 3 7/8" high but it's got enough room to clip into if I twist the CMI Fig. 8 90* . Perfect for descending. Still looking for a locking one in those dimensions.

Just got some 8mm Bailout for prusik cord, holds without issue, releases easily even when tied with an extra coil. I experimented w/a DMM Sidewinder swivel carabiner (old piece) on the pulley but it's rough knurled gate gets hung up cross-wise in the pully opening whenever tension goes slack, and it's difficult to right. I'm back to my trusty old Kong fixed-eye 'biners for the prusik.

Hey there, just FYI I'm using that same accessory cord, and I noticed two of my ugly plastic white loops with that cord inside were coming off the other day when I got down!! Man, lucky I wasn't doing any real work, hanging stuff from them w/people below. I would offer that it's worth double-checking your knots on that cord. I had to re-tighten with two small Visegrips. I tied my terminations as double-barrel knots, pretty tight for hand-tight, and they still came loose. Now... they're really tight!

I was kinda of eyeing the possibility of my overhand knots coming undone or pulling through the holes on the harness. The way I wrapped the cord though, the tension from the weight of a saw shouldn't make it to the knots. I did carefully melt the ends of the knots as well to help from them working loose but I'm gonna keep a close eye on them. The biner is still supported by the leather so even if the cord comes totally loose, the shembiner is still secured by the leather material. Your gear loops loosening is a different story. Those come loose and you're minus some of your gear. If I have to redo the cord I will likely add a small washer behind the knots to help from pulling through the harness holes.

Eeeeek, see you made mistake I made. Your only on the leather. The strap / webbing behind the leather. That’s what I hook too. I use the shembiner on my left side, so if I’m in awkward position it makes for each stow of saw. But on right side, I use rock exotica transporter so that way when I walk around tree my sAw is locked safety. Use that webbing behind the leather.

I thought about putting the biner on the webbing but that would make another potential wear point that would be difficult to inspect. I'm happy with the way it straps up to the rubber.

Don't run a shembiner behind it. Maybe the bolt on hooks, but the shembiner has square edges that will eat at your webbing as it pivots slightly.
That is not a replaceable wear item, and once it gets chewed up, the saddle is done.

So your saying only put on the leather? Not on the strap? Cause everything I have put on my leather has fucked my leather up

The tire rubber stuff isn't life support. The shembiner barely fits in the caritool spot and moves very little, but it would eat your webbing.
My rubber stuff is not chewed up, and I'm rocking the grey shembiners for the third(?) year.
