Tree ?

That is hard to describe, has a pungent, different smell. Sassafras has a certain smell, Catalpa too. This one has its own.
 
Not Ailanthus (Tree of Heaven, Stinking Sumac, etc...).

They have an even number of leavlets... normally don't have a single 'terminal' leaflet on the leaves. Also the leaflets are "truncate" at the bast (cut off - don't have a nice even taper from wide to the stem). I've seen that referred to as a 'tooth' at the base of the leaf.

That looks nothing like a Rowan from the photos

Agrees on the non-paired terminal leaf in the cluster

What do you see on the ground? Any fruit / nuts that might help ID?
