If its a base anchor I take the prussik apart. I very rarely use it in the form of a buckstrap. Never said anything like that about modern gear. I use a zz and rw and whatever else needed for the job. Not looking for jokes. From my research it seems like the rope is strong enough for the fore mentioned applications. Both ends are spliced. Why not use things that are versatile? It's barely ever used in "buckstrap" form. I'm not look in for an argument. Ill rephrase my question one last time. Is 5/8 sta set strong enough for the said applications?
I'm still learning and getting better everyday. I rec climb on spare time, got 50+ acres of wood here in NY if anyone wants a spot to climb lmk. I def. Use much more gear on rec climbs than at work. I bought the buckstrap years ago when I was still on the ground. Then I got an old petzl microcender but I like a hitch with a micro pulley for tending. Then I was digging through my stuff and tried to find uses for this old relic because its still in great condition. As time keeps going I do give in and buy better stuff if its more efficient. One end is a spliced loop and the other end is spliced with a plastic thimble. I'm currently learning how to splice but I find it hard to believe I should burn this 5/8 sta set with nice spliced terminations. But if so please lmk what you think I should use it for.
If you were on the west coast it would be a good size for a lanyard to go spurring up the big trees. But, if it is a marine type dbl braid it might snag too easily for that application. Maybe a rigging false crotch that you would be able to set from the ground.
Base anchors I only used it on sketchy stuff or on some rec climbs. I'm still green when climbing SRT. I got a RW and haven't got a foot ascender which I feel is essential. Foot locking is slow. I would love a SAKA. I got hand ascenders, microcender, microtraxion, and 100lb swl bungee I fashioned into a neck/chest connection and I just can't seem to form an effective system to ascend SRT. I know theirs better stuff out there but I got all the stuff at one time or another on sale or trading. I mostly DRT but I am constantly reading and researching tools and techniques to find better and more safely efficient ways to climb. I'm in upstate NY been in the business fresh outta high school, about 14 years now and haven't seen anybody going SRT until a few years ago. I seen it on the internet but not on the job. I just really want to learn everything about everything trees. I love all the new gear and techniques. I want to know how to be good at every thing. But before I invest money into new gear, I read all tech notices, every thread and watch all vids on something before I buy. Any advice, tips, and suggestions are very appreciated.

He posted a video recently that took a lot of courage to put out there, as it put a possibly embarrassing incident in full view for everyone to see. But it might keep someone alive, so he swallowed his pride and posted it, and I admire him for it. You should look for his video about the Rock Exotica chest roller. It makes an SRT ascent look laughably easy.

Good on you for wanting to learn. Don't forget to study up on forces at your TIP. You started off with talking about using as a base anchor on sketchy stuff? That would "almost" double your forces at your TIP so be careful!

From the gear that you listed, you might be able to make a rope walker system out of it. The double bungee system could be made out of what you already have.

The z359 is a fall protection standard. Z133 is arboriculture safety standard, the one to follw for production tree climbing. Rec climbing no standatd, but you’d be foolish to not observe the z133, made by arborists for arborists.
Ok, an autolock, or sometimes called a twistlock, only requires two movements. Look on the other side to see if there is a notch in the barrel so that it has to pushed up to bypass a peg. Or just see if the barrel turns without pushing it up.
Yes push up then twist to open. Bought it at a Sherrill dealers shop a while back. Their good dudes but don't really know much about climbing.

Brocky, not tring to be a prick, just see an opportunity for a valuable lesson. I would’ve say it’s good to use, so much depends on function, inspection and interface. Even perfectly excellent gear can be used in terrible tragic ways.
As for inspection I don’t feel like typing that much before coffee. Got some camera setting to work with so I’ll put together a short vid later.
