MS192

I pick up an MS192 from e-bay a while ago and can't seem to get the saw to stay running properly. I replaced air boot and rebuilt carb. It seems to constantly need to be adjusted. My next step is to pressure test and look for leaks. I don't have all of the tools I need to do this but I think I can figure it out. I read some place that they had problems with the top end gasket leaking. Any one run into this type of problem with this saw. If I end up taking the top end apart is there a better one to replace it with. Maybe a little more power. I cuts great when its running.
Thanks in advance for any help.

It’s a clamshell saw so it is sealed with liquid gasket. You want to stay with the stock engine, there isn’t room to increase the bore without it being detrimental to quality. Also, as far as I know there isn’t a larger displacement engine available. I just rebuilt one of these and put a meteor top end in it.

Are you running a thin bar with pico chain? Decreasing the kerf width proportionately has the same effect as increasing the power...

Yes I am running a pico chain and a 14" bar. It's not a power issue it cuts great when I get the carb. dialed in. The carb just doesn't stay dialed in it just doesn't have a happy place. It is great for awhile then I have to mess with the adjustments after awhile. Then if I shut it down I have to readjust. Hard to explain that is why I think it is a leak in a bearing seal or the top end seal. I really don't need the extra power I opened up the exhaust some. I was just wondering if there was a better top end the one that is on it is fine. Plenty of compression 150psi after 4 pulls.

Put a new kit in the carb and replace the fuel filter.

I did both and a new plug. Everything I could think of I think I will spray some carb, cleaner around top end seal and bearing seals to see if I get a reation. Probably should just spring for a leak down tester!!

Accelerator pump kit is Stihl part number 1137 120 9704 or Zama part K053053. It’s probably around $10-15 at your dealer.

I bought one cause it was on sale , I can see why now, things a sluggish sucker. Need to do some little mods to it ,hopefully that'll help.

I you referring to a diaphragm in the carb? I never heard it called an accelerator pump. If so I replace it.

There is a small piston that moves back and forth forcing more fuel into the throat. If you look up the carb diagram you will see it and there is a little oring that degrades over time.

Are you saying to look into the carb. or the parts diagram. I will find a parts diagram for that carb and check it out that sounds like it could be the culprit. I started it the other day when it was cold out side and it seemed to run well. The problem only happens when it is warm to hot ambient temps. I check for leaks couldn't find any so I will replace this oring. How do you get to it? I suppose the parts diagram will show me that.
Thanks allot for your input it would make sense that this would cause the problem.
I appreciate the tip.

I couldn't find any information on this part if you have a source please let me know. Or you could explain it in a little more detail that might help me find it. I have been through just about every chain saw carb. made. I am least familiar with the Zama's.

It’s retained behind one of the butterfly rods. What carb do you have? I just remembered I have a carb off a 192, mine is a c1Q with s135 907a on the side

I think Zama is the only one to use them. It’s an infamous problem in the 200t’s and I didn’t realize the 192’s had one until you started the thread.

Thank you very much I'm not sure which carb I have but they list 3 in the parts diagram from Stihl. I was looking at just buying anew one I can use the old one for parts and a new one's are cheap enough C1Q-S134 is one of them and the last three number differ on the other that are listed. This carb. comes up allot when I searched for MS192T carbs. C1Q-S257 So I am not sure what to do. I might call my dealer see what carb he comes up with.

I just noticed that those parts aren't even listed for sale in that diagram. But if it is only an O ring I suppose I could find something that fit. I would have to look for a place maybe Home Depot or Ace Hardware that would have metric size's. I always like a challenge.
