Tower Climber.......Anyone do this??

My cousin was a tower climber for about 5-6 yrs before he got into the iron workers union. He had some interesting stories and he liked it but eventually got out because of all the travel and down time between jobs

Thanks for the feedback.
He liked it, huh. Why ?
Any word on pay? Is it or was it worth while to do?

Well I know he’s not too afraid of heights but he liked it cuz it was interesting and different and he prefers to work outdoors. I think he liked the travel but after a few years not so much. I couldn’t tell u about pay. That’s all I really remember thinking back on conversations we’ve had. If I remember right I think nick Bonner was a tower climber before he got into trees. I’d email him, he could probably tell u more.

I have not done it before. I wasn't exactly looking to get into it but thought my skill set would be a good match for the job. So I applied for about a dozen jobs that I saw, but like I said never even heard back. I'd like to get into it if the price is right, but kinda doubt most would be willing to pay what I'd be asking.

Lots of travel. Long days. Boring places in the cut usually.

Pay ranges from 15-25/hour for top hands. 20-35 for crew leaders. Perdiem for travel 25-50/day.

Hard exposed work. Not nearly as interesting or local as tree care. I left and never looked back.
