this is what happens when you tip tie a large vertical limb

He got lucky three times... first when ot helicoptered and just barely glanced his hard hat (6" lower and he'd be dead for sure)... second on the first rebound just missing his lower body, and thirdly when the second rebound hit him in the back of the claf/ankle/foot, it wasn;t hard enough to do any damage

I honestly think you should rethink your career choice... You're making way to many mistakes and taking a far too relaxed attitude about them when you do... You only get so many of those small mishaps and near misses/close calls until some really bad shit happens.
Not trying to bust on you bro, REALLY trying to save your life...

You've got a great personality for video... shop yourself around to host a reality TV show... SERIOUSLY!..... now that you're out of action for a while take the time to look for a new direction

Yea, his fall vid came out not real long after this one did, messed himself up pretty good. And I agree that Dan's tree service vid was funny as hell

I like watching his videos, he's pretty entertaining. He dicked him self up good in that fall. He's lucky he didn't die.

... if my ground slowly lowered a piece of wood onto/through the only little obstacle under me like that, I'd be on the ground and pissed. That was just dumb. I started from the beginning and up until they crushed that fence everything seemed all good.

He did not have the ground guy he needed to be trying to do what he's doing. He puts a rookie ground guy in a scary spot, trying to handle sketchy rigging set up. I've been under that scene before. If the groundie doesn't have the nut to speak up and climber doesn't have the foresight to see what's about to happen, no bueno.
 
Slash cut okay maybe but that creates undue shock load which should always be avoided imo
  1. it wasn't tip tied/tied to low
  2. nobody was on the lowering rope? looked like it was locked off? filmer
  3. should have been winched into the rig point/stand it up keep it static with line control on the butt
  4. tip could of been held by third person to avoid wild swing
  5. he could of made the cut near to severing point and got of the tree to help snap it out
  6. like others have said smaller pcs with control line to avoid wild swing

I try to imagine the full outcome and wage, how much is this going hurt? Continue or adjust plan? Breath, drink water, talk it LOUD, get out of tree and step back and check it from another angle.
We all really enjoy the work,the rush, the fear and the challenge of completing.
no injury, bit of bruise, major contusion, broken bones and bleeding or maybe dead.
How do you see it? What questions are you asking yourself before you make the cut?

We may have a issue with definitions, but I disagree with a lot of the above.. generally its just faster easier to use gravity, rather than winching, which is almost never needed with a good rigging set up.
and to answer the question:
Before making cut ask yourself "if I do this will I die here?"

second question is "AM I sure?"

In with Daniel for the most part about the winching / lifting.
I refuse to look at things tho on whether or not it will kill me. If that's what I'm asking myself, I'm most definitely in too deep. Shit my first thought is usually how can I make this piece get to the ground as fast and smoothly as possibly. After that it's where do I have to be to be able to make the cut comfortably, be out of the rigging, and not be in the way of moving material.
