Hey guys and gals - I've got a 2002 Morbark 2400xl chipper with a Perkins 4 cylinder diesel. Alternator has gone bad and we pulled it but cant find any model numbers. Anyone have the same chipper/motor with any insight? I have a text into levi at envirochipper in oregon but can i source this from NAPA?

You should be able to go into your local NAPA with the engine info and they should be able to cross it. If they fall short call your local (or as close as they can be) Cat/Perkins dealer. If they can't get the info you might as well scrap it... kidding.
Another resource would be the morbark dealer. They can look the machine up by serial number and just about find anything about your machine. They can be expensive though cause they just buy and resell. My dealer was alway nice, they would give me the part # and tell me to call "xyz" to get the part.
Good luck!

Hey all - thanks for all the advice. Popped by the yard to grab the engine serial # but NAPA couldnt do anything with it. Found a rebuild shop within 20 minutes of me but then realized that would make our only machine down for a couple of days. So back to talking to the dealer first thing monday morning! Anyways, appreciate all the info!

I sent a pic to my guy...forgot he has a flip phone so he can't see pics...told him what it was on and he said there's a really good chance that it's a denso alternator. Alts from dealers are CRAZEY expensive...figure $600 in my past experience.

Always keep a spare alt and starter...even stuff like belts and ignition switches...only unit; buy more parts.
