TreeStuff and SherrillTree Join Forces

I suppose it depends how much, or if you care at all who ends up getting the money you spent, Dave.

If, like you say 'you don't give a shit', and all that matters is a good price, then yeah it doesn't really matter. But as is evident here and has been repeated already, there's a lot of treeworkers who do care where they spend there money, and feel like they're contributing to a companies evolution and continuity when they repeatedly shop there. An investment, call it. And that's just the customers....not to mention the actual Product Manufacturers who make a similar investment by offering access of their product line to the company (in this case treestuff), thinking it was a secure and long term relationship. And then, one day without any prior indication or warning, you read on treebuzz that Treestuff just sold out to Sherrill....and that's that.

I think its a matter of principle. Some people will feel it, others wont. Right and wrong is just a personal perception really. I dont like how some of my personal designs have been distributed and controlled through treestuff for a couple years at least....only to discover and realise through an impersonal thread on a public forum that this 'buy-out' has taken place. Dress it up as 'business' if you want, but to me its not cool....being mislead that is.

Incidentally, the guys at Stein are really looking forward to working with Sherrill, apparently. They steer the boat, and I trust in their judgement, so whatever. Sherrill have a dealer here in Victoria now too, I may have said that already. In a small city on an island its like a blessing. I tell all the local guys to shop there because we need them to stay open.
Thank you for bringing attention to product manufacturers. I have been reading this thread and although I have bought nothing from Treestuff, I work for a company that does manufacture climbing products. I did think that the relationship with Treestuff was secure and long term. They love our products where Sherrilltree does not. So it seemed like we were on a path with the company that we love while all the while everything that you are doing is benefiting a bully competitor. It does feel like being mislead.

Yo. I assume this is, Casey?

Sherrill doesn't have anything against New Tribe at all. TS and ST have different customers and I think New Tribe is just a little more TreeStuffy (for lack of a better word). The product offerings are going to remain completely distinct and unique. It is two different warehouses, two different websites. TreeStuff will sell the stuff that Bonner and I are passionate about. SherrillTree will sell the stuff that meets their customer's needs.

I love NT products and your contributions the past couple years have been brilliant (and the best is yet to come).

Thank you for your reply. Something that I forgot to say was congratulations to you and your family. I totally understand family is precious and time goes fast. It is the most important thing to work for.

I am not a big buyer of gear. I make my own soft gear and climb simple. The one time I asked you if I could buy a couple of the triple locking captive eye carbiners that were in my hands already, you told me I could just have them. You also sent me a box of swag (t-shirts, stickers and buffs) even though I have never placed an order.

I was reading this thread and came across the post by Reg and it echoed my feelings of uncertainty because it came from the manufacturers point of view. So I wanted to express mine too. Your answer does give me some peace of mind.
We are Treestuffy and thank you for your kind words about my contribution. I love what I do and the people that I do it for. Do something you that love and you'll never work a day in your life. I know that is a dreamy statement but many days what I do does not feel like work at all. I mean hey! I got paid to go to Jambo! Thank you and your staff for all that you do.

Question for @TreeStuff and/or @bonner1040.

You guys keep saying that everything will stay the same. Why even announce the sale at all?

Several people have asked that. Not announcing the sale would have been dishonest and pretty crazy .... exactly the kind of shady corporate move that we are determined to avoid. I'm much happier with you guys knowing exactly what is up and judging us all based on how we do from here on out.

......besides all of our invoices and checks to and from our vendors say Sherrill Inc now so this cat wasn't staying in the bag ;)

I too appreciate the information, knowledge is power. A sphere of influence is difficult to recognize, yet alone, what the influence is. Buyer and seller will see it differently. Even sellers may see things differently depending on if they are trying to drive the market or just provide a bridge from manufacture to consumer.

I completely agree. Feeling unsure of things at this point is completely normal and knowledge IS power.

I'm hoping to take as many of you out for drinks at JAMBO as possible (Friday night maybe?) ... and if you can't make it to Indy then maybe at TCIA Baltimore. You can ask questions, punch me in the face, kiss me or whatever weird thing we come up with.

Not able to make it to Jambo but will take your offer up in Baltimore even though you guys spoiled us in Pittsburgh last year !
