TreeStuff and SherrillTree Join Forces

Ill take that bet David, how much you want to lay? Ill give you 5:1 odds on $1000 that your wrong. You want to set the time period? More?

No lie, you take that bet you are getting robbed. I'm not a gambler, I only lay out on a sure thing.

We aren't going anywhere. TreeStuff is profitable and growing at a fantastic rate. Sherrill is profitable and also growing on its own, why would we mess with that? Its simple risk vs reward, there is no incentive to change anything.

While that may appear to be a brave challenge Nick, TreeStuff already no longer exists. They are now Sherrill's TreeStuff. And the REASON you were bought out was just for the reasons you mentioned in being "profitable and growing at a fantastic rate" to challenge the likes of Sherrill Tree. But the challenge is over sad to say. I feel nothing but sad about this. I loved your company as did just about everyone else. Not to say I won't buy from you anymore...but now it will just be for price reasons and not because of loyalty. I didn't even check other prices anymore, just bought TS alone as my loyalty was won.

While we all have our own feeling on this merger and what it might/will become this is the one absolutely positive that I gather from all this. @bonner1040 Nick or Steve correct me if I'm wrong but from and earlier post from Steve I copied these lines;

"My long winded point is through this exchange, all 33 of those people who's names we may not know, who pack our boxes and splice our ropes are going to have a safety net. Insurance, retirement, benefits. That's an aspect that never crossed my mind. It's really huge if you think about it. What if every item went up by $10 to be able to provide benefits to the employees? Would you pay it and not be upset? I'm undecided myself. This deal allows that investment to happen without the cost being driven down to the consumer." @Steve Connally

That alone makes it a tough deal not to take if you care about your employees.

I respectfully disagree. What makes TreeStuff what it is, is the people. Not the name or even an owner. I have been at the helm of the brand for three years now and my family plan has me there for the foreseeable future. Our team isn't changing, it's the same group of folks committed to having fun, taking care of people, innovating and generally finding cool stuff to bring to market.

When I see "TreeVet" I think David Shaw, Cincinnati. Monkeylove, Frank Haverkamp... and so on. People dont love TreeStuff cause we are cheap. They love TreeStuff because we know who they are and we care about them.

The reason we let you keep the rope we sent that was wrong? We knew you needed a rope for work. You ordered a specific one and we sent the wrong one, in our mind you used that rope to get the job done, but still wanted what you ordered. It wasn't some grand plan to trick you, it's just doing what is right. That mentality got us where we are today and will carry us forward into the future.

I hope Ole giant Sherrill doesn't squash you like a bug Nick because you certainly have the right attitude...but your old boss Luke invented that and will Sherrill care about that?....We'll see. Good luck.

But is there any real point Nick ? Youre essentially all on the Sherrill payroll now....so why hang on to a name that is no longer independent. If Dave Shaw for example, bought Treestuff, then it would make sense to keep the name....but instead a rival company now owns treestuff, so why bother ? May as well just be sherril with some new staff and systems from a company that used to be.

I think there are tons of examples in our favor. Adidas>5.10 Davey>TheCareOfTrees are two that are acquisition based. As far as retailers maintaining separate friends look at backcountry for example they have at least five different retail brands.

I could go on and on about why this makes business sense but I'm on vacation with the wife, so you're just gonna have to trust me.

That is really just a smart buisness move on ST's part. Think next generation of climbers or the even the one after that. As a simple example take a look at the love hate relationship between people that love Ray Ban sunglasses and despise Oakley. For everyone of them there is another person with exactly the opposite view. They both say the other sucks and by only "their" brand. Truth is both brands are owned by the same company and have riden, even promoted this rivalry all the way to the bank for decades.

That'd be all good and we'll if sherril and Treestuff were selling different products....but that isn't the case. It's the same stuff....but with different packaging and free stickers. Unless, you think tree workers are so dumb that they still see Treestuff as an alternative to Sherrill....one that they'd sooner spend there money with. You'd have to be one dumb son of a bitch to still think that.

Man, this is one strange thread! Was I surprised? Yes I was and then I moved on. Life is change, get used to it.

Luke, you are a good guy that created a great company that I will continue to do business with. If this move is where you want to be, then congratulations! You deserve it.

I still can't believe no one saw this coming. I thought the writing was on the wall.

Sleazy or not, this is how capitalism works. I am not a fan, but it is the world we live in.

I wouldn't exactly say that I saw this coming, BUT I'm not surprised. When TS started making their own porti, then the rings, as well as a few other items it turned me off. If one were to honor more than the bottom line, they would have promoted independent businesses before selling the ball then running with it. Besides being on the other side of the country this is exactly what has turned me off from sherrill. If I am not mistaken Sherrill has the sole distributorship to Silky, if I am correct any Silky bought in the US has to go through Sherrill's hands pre retail....

I'd be curious to know how many responding own their own business. Owning a multi-million dollar small business takes away your freedom, causes you to age and turn gray fast, deprives you of sleep, causes anxiety, leaves very little time for friends/family. Sure, you have big bucks in the bank, but how much do you truly need so you can relax and enjoy life? The whole point of working is to be able to live comfortably. be happy for the man that he reached a place where he can take a step back and focus on the more important things in life.

Who are now owned by Sherrill. So what's the difference whether you order through one or the other ?

Because I have visited TS, meet all of them and like them. Because at the Pittsburgh show they said screw the system, we will have our own party every night. Where I might add they gave stuff away until it hurt and rented a great place to kick back and party with other tree poeple. Admission cost for all that....free.

All my orders go to Wesspur or TS (as long as it stays alive) never Sherrill proper. I have certainly have not been climbing for anywhere near the years that some of you have but for me it is really simple. I go to classes, courses, or climbs and I see NGD or TreeStuff, if not free stuff from them to give away is usally there. Before this thread Sherrill was just a company with a crappy mobile website.
