Heli Ride

So cool Reg. I just watched your 'Cedar Topping' video too. You are too cool. Although, one of the transitions in the Cedar topping video wigged me out.
I think it was about 6:40 that you are stowing your saw at your side and then the next thing you hear is the saw revving. Freaked me out!

So incredible Reg. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks. That was just our ride in and out. The big Sky crane will come and pick all those poles next week I believe.

The ride to and from these sites is just spectacular. More so this week but I didn't video it.

The white chopper in the second vid was our daily ride and pilot. About 4 flying hours after the last day of my shift, this happened. Amazingly nobody got killed.

Last day on that site yesterday. I put this clip on youtube to answer some questions Ive been getting there later. I'll add the link and description here in case anyones interested. Thanks.

Use HD setting. Been asked a lot of questions since the last video (Cedar topping). Hopefully this answer a few. This the final stages from a climber perspective. Not a huge tree at approx 130ft. The number of ribbons indicate the DBH of the pole, which is important in regards to the order of which logs are picked up first and last. Bigger logs are picked up last when the Helicopter is carrying less fuel, hence less weight. My climbline is 150ft...which would give me the option to make it to the ground SRT in an emergency....but otherwise allows me to rappel 75 ft doubled line until I run out of rope. Then I walk down the remainder which is easy enough. To carry a longer climbline would mean packing more weight up the tree....so a trade off, of sorts.

Wow shoot. That is so sad! I hope everyone is doing okay. That is tough. Did the landing pad collapse?

It's lands at the pad for about a minute, while you get in and buckle up. It took off, then lost power. The pilot was somehow still able to aim it at the pad. It hit the pad and rolled off. If it'd just got a little further away, say 20, 30 seconds, it wouldve been curtains for all on board I'd say.

I just watched your other vid Reg, I have never seen that "Notch the top and DDRT down trick". Did you learn that out there or is that something common that I just never was before? Still lving my Stein chainsaw pants I bought in Pittsburgh after we chatted. Stay safe.

It's been around for a long time. But in residential work it's just as easy to leave stubs. You just need to be sure to go deep enough. I always cut down at least a bar width. Thanks.

Thanks for sharing all your amazing videos Reg. It was very fortunate that there were no fatalities.
I've heard a helicopter being described as "a million parts rotating rapidly around an oil leak waiting for metal fatigue to set in". Made me laugh. They are still fun to fly in and be around.
This past Sunday I had the chance to attend several "lifts" of HVAC units (around 30) onto a mall. They used a Eurocopter for the small units and a Sikorsky for the larger units. I was talking to the pilot and female copilot of the Sikorsky. (Both live on Vancouver Island).
Gained valuable contacts in case I ever get that elusive Helicopter Tree Removal. :)
