door knockers

I was outside my mom's house today and a "tree company" pulled on the street in a suberban and a trailer and came up to Me and asked to give me an estimate To remove 6 ash trees from her yard. I've been treating the trees for years now so they're not dead. But I went ahead and played along with the guy. I asked him if he was a certified arborist and of course he said yes but he didn't have his certification number handy. I then asked him how he could tell they were ash trees and he told me "see that green stuff on there?(Moss). only ash trees have moss on them" the more he talked the more I could smell the marijuana on him. I went ahead and told him I had to go and didn't want any work done. It amazes me that someone would try this, but I'm sure some people would have believe him and payed to have the trees cut down.

Guys like that... you gotta be diplomatic with them...

"Really? Ash tree moss, eh? So, you're saying I have a mossy ash? Damn. Well, the trees can wait... I got a riding mower out back, half torn apart. Want to help me fix it? Been sitting there for 14 years, now. Kinda rusty. I'll give you twenty bucks and some granola flavored yogurt."

Deal with it all the time. The usual outcome is the mark are elderly folks and the con does just enough to get paid and then leaves all the brush and wood on the ground and never returns. By that time, there is usually nothing I can do for the folks except tell them they have learned an expensive lesson.

Im not sure if these guys are in the same class as our local tree service ads on CraigsList. We have some winners, and it appears that we have a new guy posting a pic of his 20ft "Cherry Picker" Cant tell if the guy is wearing PPE in the pic because the whole truck is buried in brush. Oh well. Not my circus, not my monkies

Door knockers really get me going . I love it !
At least they have the spirit to go get it . Especially the ones with yellow trucks and tree experts sprayed on the side in purple . They're great! What a wonderful world!

I got a buddy from Va. comes up and helps from time to time, when he's town. By far the best door knocker I've ever seen.. After the ice storm of 2/14, he would keep us in a neighborhood for day after day.. Little easier to sell that sort of thing when there is a 75' elevator working across the street.
