youtube copyright disclaimer

This should work for anyone that has had their audio muted for copyright infringement...

Disclaimer:
"Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Fair use is a use permitted by copyright statute that might otherwise be infringing. Non-profit, educational or personal use tips the balance in favor of fair use."

Fair use is a sticky subject. It is not as easy as it sounds. My cousin works in the video production world and he has tried to explain a fraction of it to me.

Yes I see that by picking someones music for the uses that we use it for on our videos would just be another promo for them. I have learned about a lot of new artists from fellow tree related videos on youtube that had the music linked. I mean the ones that are allowed "tag" the music and give you a buy it on itunes option.

But it is all about money...in that world

I don't have any problem with enforcing and respecting copyrights. You're right...its about money...making a living...being paid for our work.

In my head the analogy is having a client who wants a little extra work done. It might not be much to make another cut but it does cost us to do more work. Sometimes there is a goodwill gain from donating our time to the client. Do that too often or too much and you'll loose money.

I've found copyrighted print material/books that have been digitized and put on line. Now, the author doesn't get paid for the work that they did. How many times has a client not paid you for doing a tree job? It hurts doesn't it?

I agree with you Tom. It's just frustrating sometimes when you hear about them complaining about how much they loose to what they make. Kinda hard to feel bad for them. Yet some of them still find themselves in debt.

But it is good that it is regulated in general. I mean we don't gain anything from using their music just enjoyment. They get further exposure of their music.

I've only used mainstream music on a handful of my tree vids... Just noticed recently they are displaying ads before one of them. Youtube has offered me a "monetized" option, which I have declined so far.. I don't expect that little bit of $$$ would make much of a difference to me.
