\"You guys dont make enough!\"

Had my brother come help me rig down this ugly sugar maple with no top on it this afternoon. Took alot longer than I anticipated, but I also was attempting to walk out of there without breaking anything. I snapped 2 twigs on a newly planted holly. :( I'll take it though!

After 9 hours on site, maple on the ground, brush stacked, and most of the wood bucked to firewood length, save for the butt log and some small stuff, started limbing this big ugly pine I have to attend to next week. All with my younger brother with zero chainsaw experience and very little rigging/groundie experience which he got with me earlier this year. I went up and down the maple 5 times as I was chainsaw groundie guy, climber, and coordinating his every move lowering stuff from up in the tree. Exhaustive to say the least!

By 4pm he was visibly running on fumes and dragging pretty good. My fave line from him of the day was "I have no idea what you guys get paid, but its not nearly enough!"

PS. Just picked up a Husky 346xp, and I'm in love with my chainsaws all over again <3 <3 <3

:-P

Re: \"You guys dont make enough!\"

You'll never see an out of shape professional tree climber...To be honest though, when I did private tree work, the compensation for the effort and skill put into the job depressed the hell out of me so I left and now do line clearance. Work is way easier and my hourly rate is what my overtime pay was in the private sector. Granted I hardly climb anymore and the work is much less rewarding but I can go home and play with my kid without being overly tired from work at the end of the day.

That's a good picture. More personal that what you show in your avatar.

I agree.

Nice job, Jeff! Two guys on that monster? Whew! That's a big'un for a straight up manual takedown with two people!

Re: \"You guys dont make enough!\"

I'll be back next weekend to do a 36"ish pine and another 32-36" sugar maple. We stacked all the brush and well chip it next week. First real "big" buzzy of my own. The logistics of lining up people when you don't have your own equipment is a pain to say the least! At least there's a guy taking all the firewood, so then I just have probably 2 cords worth of pine logs to get rid of as camp wood at home! I just picked up my first maul and wedge last week. Lol

Anyone want a ton of pine firewood!? :-p
