worst munter hitch I've seen

Re: worst munter hitch I\'ve seen

I'm speechless. Do you think that was from a helmet cam or did they take the time to pull out the smart phone for an instagram?

OW pretty much sums it up. Looks like the victim was belaying a leader that fell back onto protection, thus rotating the Munter. It must have pulled the digit right through the carabiner. Dang!

Re: worst munter hitch I\'ve seen

I think its fake, if i ripped my finger off I would not take the time to stop and sit still for a picture. but I'm a pansy.

Re: worst munter hitch I\'ve seen

Real or fake it drives the point home.

I've been careful and lucky. The power in rope going around a port-a-wrap dwarfs muscle and bone.

Re: worst munter hitch I\'ve seen

Speaking from experience, it doesn't feel like much. Shock is instantaneous and, a wonderful thing. A tug, the sense that something is not right and a feeling of being detached (not the finger but yourself) from the event. When my finger tip from just above the last knuckle was snapped off it didn't bleed all that much. I cursed, grabbed the first aid kit, got some gauze and wrapped it all up. I took pictures at the hospital.

Yeah, and what's up with what looks like a knot as James mentioned?

Re: worst munter hitch I\'ve seen

Looks more like rock climbing to me. Almost looks like a double fisherman's loop at the bottom with some extra wraps around the biner...who knows? Sure is pretty though

I am, unfortunately, a member of this club as well. Snowblowers don't give a damn about flesh and bone. Long story, but the results basically the same as you, TH. Almost zero pain, just pulled the machine back up the driveway, started my truck, and went inside to tell the wife and wrap it up.

Hurts like hell later though I bet.

I guess the same thing could potentially happen with a figure 8.

As a safety-conscious business owner and employer, it hurts the ego more than anything. Don't let your guard down at home or when you are out of work mode.

Re: worst munter hitch I\'ve seen

After it was reattached it hurt in places and numb in others. Now the sensations are all over the map. No real distinct feeling in the tip except sharp pain now and again. PITA more than anything.

Re: worst munter hitch I\'ve seen

i got smoked by a ground saw in the shoulder, and i think it hurt more once i got pain meds at the hospital because it calmed me down and the adrenalin when away.

hope that it doesnt affect that guys math skills

Re: worst munter hitch I\'ve seen

I would assume the "knot" tied under the munter is to stop the rope from running. Like a prussic under a figure 8. Although, his finger probably would bind it up enough so he could take a picture...
