Work Day

NJAISA annual Work Day, Saturday December 6th @ Rutgers Cook College New Brunswick NJ. Get a sweatshirt and ISA credits for helping out. Last year over 100 arborists participated. It's great to see how everyone else does it.

PM me for more info and/or directions.

Hope to get some help from fellow Treebuzzers.

NJAISA ANNUAL WORK DAY

The 2003 NJAISA Work day will be held Saturday, December 6, 2003 at Cook College Campus in New Brunswick, Middlesex County, New Jersey. Thanks to our great member participation, NJAISA’s Annual Work Day has become a model for ISA chapters all over the country. The last 3 years have been record breakers with 100 in attendance. Let’s break that record again this year!!

We need 3 cranes and plenty of aerial lifts, chip trucks & chippers, utility line clearance personnel, 2 fertilizer trucks, and one stump grinder, along with plenty of volunteers. Please contact Harry P. Banker at 973-887-7064 or the NJAISA Office at 732-574-9100 to confirm your company’s participation and what / who you can bring. So come on out and join your fellow members and arborists in a great day of service – you’ll be glad you did, and you’ll be in this year’s picture too!!

Make sure you join in this award-winning effort by filling out the volunteer from below as completely as possible, so we can plan accordingly. Please get this information back to us by fax (732-574-9111) or email (trees4nj@aol.com). Come out and join the effort – you’ll be so glad you did!

DIRECTIONS:
From the north or south, take the NJ Turnpike to Exit 9, New Brunswick, to Rt. 18 north, bearing left at the fork and then bearing right at the car wash to exit onto Rt. 1 south. Take Rt. 1 south past Sears and Ryders Lane. Take the next exit onto College Farm Road, just past the Cook College Campus sign. Make a right at the yield sign, and follow the road ½ ways up to the staging area at the Evolution, Ecology and Natural Resources parking lot, where you will be assigned a working area on campus.

From the west, take Rt. 287 south to Rt. 1 south and follow the directions above.

Work areas will have coffee and restrooms available, lunch will be at the Cook Campus Center. Dump sites are available at the Display Gardens on Ryders Lane.

Cmon out and help the NJAISA with this project. We can always use another person. Climbers and Groundpersons are all welcome to participate. Look forward to seeing everyone at Rutgers.

I went out and saw the scope of work to be done today. Mostly pruning with a few removals. Should be a cream puff day.

We may be getting our first winter storm from Thurs. into the weekend. Should it not be a go this Saturday, we will hope to do it the following Saturday.

Work Day was postponed for tomorrow because of a snot of snow falling right now. We will try for next Saturday, the 13th. Hope all can attend.

Thanks again for your support.

Trevor

All -

Looking forward to the workday fellas. I got 3 other guys besides me that will be heading over. Got to bring the boys over from Pennsy, can't be the only one there!
Later

Here's the first go of a "wrap up" that I copied from our NJAISA Past President, Gary:

Second, here is my assessment of work day.

Red oak lane - 66 prunes and 4 removals

Heylar house - 69 prunes and 3 removals

Student center - 78 prunes and 11 removals

This works out to approx $ 104,000.00

125 laborers, climbers, equipment, supervisors, Wayne driving an automatic, and the PCA student tour group.

Cross referencing of actual costs on a per tree basis totals $98,000.00.

I would be interested in if anyone else came up with totals. My removal total may be under actual numbers for that is all I saw in the immediate work areas. In all, I was amazed at the amount of work done and the real commitment all the participants put in to this project. We had a group of people that came over from pa and I wanted to thank them as well.
----------------------------------------------------------

I would also like to thank everyone that showed up. It was a great-safe day that many of us enjoyed.

I'd also like to thank the TreeBuzz guys that came out. Some (Roachy, Sawdusts, Vinny, Mike) came from PA to lend a hand, and they were very productive. Thanks guys.

I'd also like to thank Brian (Brain) Noyes and Josh for driving in from RI to help too. Great gang to work with.

See you all (and more) again next time!

Thanks again guys and especially those out of the state. This is what makes our "group" shine and stand out from the other chapters. It was a pretty killer day.

It was a great day, but where was Ropegod???

Work Day was awesome! I've never seen anything like it. If you have one in your area, attend it. If you don't have one, start one!

love
nick

I must agree with the others, Once again the NJAISA came out and did some treemendous work. It gets better each year. I look forward to seeing everyone next year and as always stay safe.

hey mark had a great time saturday ,just hoped i could of hung out a little longer.........ya know to see your face when the devils lost to the FLYERS,any way had a real good time maybe you can come over to our work day in pennsy?

It was a good day, nothing hard. Alot of bucket trucks...
It was good to see familiar faces from hangin at other events through the year.
There was one thing my buddy and I saw that didn't sit right. I'm not sure his name, but he seemed to own the small outfit. He tossed his bag, which made it about 30ft, pulled his rope through and began to eagerly book up the tree. My buddy mentioned that his rope was around a small sucker. The climbers 4 groundies looked at mike like he was crazy for suggesting that. As soon as I looked I almost ran over to catch him. This sucker was about 1/2 in dia. if that, no kidding. His drop was a good 6-7ft. The ground boys told us that the sucker was sufficient and if that broke, that the rope would drop below him to the next crotch. Remember the drop to the next limb was 6-7ft. Do the math...that's gonna leave a mark. When he first starts up the tree, gets to ALMOST the first limb which was about 5-6ft., and the sucker breaks at that point.... It was a little freaky seeing. I just have a hard time with the fact that his whole crew was ok with that. This guy LOOKED the part of a knowledgeable climber, seemed to climb well in the tree too. These guys really beleived that his boss was in no danger. The climber thought he was good too. I would probably smack my ground guys if they didnt at least say something to me or make me change it. Most guys I work with would just correct it without saying a word. If something doesnt look right, change it. That simple. Thanks for letting me babble.
Great day though...

Vinnie,

Great having you there, and I would've even let you make fun of the Devils that day since you came out of your way to help out.

But, the day is over- so don't get happy ;0) Besides, that win won't even matter in a few weeks. How's the Toronto game going tonight?
