I've been out of town for a couple of weeks and been out of the loop.
When Bailey's thought of carrying the Wolf Claw they contacted me for a try-out and review. I met the manufacture "Vince Lupo" at Bailey's, along with everyone concerned. I must admit, when I first seen the idea/concept I was anxious to try them out. And I did.
The first design completely twisted out of shape with just a ten minute hike, up, down and around that big Ponderosa in front of Bill's shop. I made note of the design flaw to Vince and told Bill I would not endorse the Wolf Claw until that problem was fixed. And until it was other aspects of the design couldn't be qualified either.
Vince Lupo modified several sets of climbers and sent them to me to try out. He beefed up the frames to minimize the tweeking, but it didn't solve the problem. Vince's shop specializes in sheet metal and plastic composite products. Unfortunately he's not equiped to work heavy guage metal or forge the frames.
All said, I must add that Vince Lupo's manufacturing facilities are idealy set up to design and maunfacture superior after market shin pads adaptable to fit all the other climbers on the market. Buckingham, Brooks, Bashlund, kline, and the rest.
No one can deny the materials used in the Wolf Claw are state of the art composites worthy of adaptation for use with all the climbers.
I told Vince exactly that. And he didn't pursue it. Maybe now with this feed back on the forum he might get wind and go into maunfacturing after market shin pads for all the other climbers.
I sincerly believe he can do it and sell a million. He's just got to come to the realization and put the first foot forward and drop the "Wolf Claw" and go into another product line. I know he put his heart and soul into it and it's hard to give up sometime your put so much work into.
Even though my review of the Vince Lupo's "Wolf Claw" is not a favorable one, my belief of his capabilities to produce a superior product design is.
