I'm curious about the wireless communication preferences for you veteran crane removal guys out there. I'm sick of hollering down to my crane operator; it's exhausting and looks unprofessional. I need to invest in a wireless headset walkie talkie system, and I'm hoping to find some advice from the pros. Thank You

I have several sets of the ones from tree stuff. The ones mounted in a hardhat are the best I have used. The "crane operator" model snaps very easily. All 3 of mine have broken. Some a few times each. My recommendation is to buy the ones that mount in a hard hat. You can customize regular hearing protection muffs with them as well if you are a little creative.

Thanks Dave, I appreciate the response, I'm sure the internally mounted ones are superior, thanks again.

I cannot see how you could break the ropetek kask units unless someone was careless. We been running them for about a year and they are flawless. You can bump the back of your head/helmet and turn them off sometimes but easy to re start them.

Definetely Sena's. One crane company we rent runs with ear tec. They have good luck with them but from what I'm told there much more expensive. Plus it comes with a sweet hard hat! We have had 4 for over a year now, and they usually get paired differently everyday. Piece of cake. We use them everyday and do crane work maybe 5 days a month? There awesome for most aspects of tree work. Haven't tried them ferting.......for the $ nothing is better. Grab a set and u won't look back

We have 6 units. 2 have been sent back to Amazon and we were sent new ones. One just stopped working and the other the flexible mic became disconnected at the plastic base when the mic was repeatedly adjusted.

I just ordered two sena's from Tree Stuff. I have been thinking about it all summer long. I just finished a large job that was very profitable, so I wanted to buy something we could really use. I am excited to see how they work. I have been running my bucket truck a lot lately and trying to do some training for my ground guys. It is so hard for them to hear me and screaming everything just wears you out. I usually just don't say anything and let them figure it out. But, that really bothers me because they need to be trained and we all need to be efficient and on the same page.
I think this addition will be great. I will post back once I have used them. I have a crane job coming up that I plan to use then on as well.
One question, do you guys always have them on? I mean, you don't have two sets of helmets and switch back and forth? I am thinning of running them all the time.

I bought 4 Sena SPH10s last may for a crane day. Used them, worked great... forgot about them in the top of the closet... got them down to use again and only 1 of the 4 would charge. In conversations with Sena about what's what. They seem to take their time responding.

Royce: I wear mine everyday, but do have another helmet. Haven't found a reason to switch back and forth. Ran around and picked up logs from yesterday's removals this morning, and took it with me. Put it on to load and turned it on so I could hear if my phone rang. Took a phone call from the boss while I was loading and was able to meet up and look at a trustees project with him. ( I'm just learning how to price/ sell work so I take every opportunity I can get Togo with him) some would argue that a hands free phone call while loading a log truck isn't the best but I feel there is a grey area. On the way to the trustees I pulled into the driveway of where the rest of the crew was. Bumped onto there connection, said hey, told them I wasn't going to be there to help finish for 2 more hrs. They were more than a football field away up the hill in trees, it took less than 5 minutes. Yea sorry about rambling on there, I really like them lol. Only downfall so far is foam padding on mic has come off. Quite an easy fix. You will be happy with this investment ! Enjoy

I have used peltor....ear tech and now senas...

So far senas are best..They have alittle less noise cancelling than the eartech but the eartechs were much heavier and needed zip ties to keep them in place, and needed some repair after 2 years. The senas are easy to set up and use and when I worked with Kyaple it was easy to sync our sets together. Much lower cost but the quality is definitely there. I have both the earmuff mounted and the crane operator headset that Tree Stuff sells and have had no problems with them.

We have no problem with the unit mounted in a helmet. The ones that break are what tree stuff calls the "crane operator set". The plastic near (the speakers) is very thin. After a short time they snap. 1 set I have snapped 3 times. Sound quality is good no complaints about that.

Peltor power com's . Rugged, reliable, use 2 aa batteries. We use rechargeables and get 2 days to a charge. Vox activated so the crane op only hears the important stuff and vice versa. As a crane opp I cant stand listening to a climber huff and puff climbing threw a canopy like you get with those repurposed motorcycle com sets
